DAISY - I think knowing the contestant's back stories is good because it gives you an idea of who they are as a person and how much they may or not want the music career. It's easier to root for someone who is genuinely good in voice AND personality than for someone who's just a good singer. There are plenty of amazing singers out there who are jerks. Voices can be worked on. That's not always the case with personalities.

I wouldn't call what we've said on this board controvery, just opinions.

I am all for people who have been up and down with their tries at the music industry being allowed on the show. Like JOYOUS said, there have been many who have worked in the music industry prior to Idol. I just think it should be a few (like 3-4) years between when they had a record deal and when they should be allowed to audition. But like I said on the Brooke White page, maybe this will give those who have had and have lost record deals a chance to better their talent and keep a record deal.

i love her voice and looks.
1st: she did have that much exposure on the show because, obviously, she's already in the top 24.
2nd: thousands of contestants who try out for AI have tried many things in the music business already so, sorry, stupid to say they should be '0 Km'.
she does remind of ayla brown, but imo she's a bit better.

There is no controversy with this girl. She obviously qualifies as a contestant on the show. The End.

Honestly, I care less about a contestant's history as a recording artist and more about their future - I want a winner who sells multi-platinum albums like Carrie, Kelly and Chris. If they've had experience before, so be it. If they haven't, that's fine, too.

I have been reading the boards since last night's show and I am amazed at the controversy surrounding this girl's history. In years past there have been quite a few contestants that had released recordings prior to getting on Idol. In Kristi's back story it's noted that she was signed and released from her contract years ago. She has been working at refining her craft since then, paying her dues. In my opinion she is just another struggling artist, who has finally a chance to show her stuff. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to see if she has what it takes to proceed on the show. She sounded pretty darn good last night!

Definitely being pimped, but I just don't see winner here either. I really hope they find someone who blows us away every week! =).

For those complaining about previous deals, etc. - Carrie Underwood had a contract and a manager for years but was portrayed as "down on the farm", as well. Finding another Kelly Clarkson is going to be difficult 7 seasons into this.

BTW - after watching Dance Wars I'm wondering why AI couldn't get some of those singers, especially the good-looking guys (which there is always a lack of on AI).

She's good. Just not spectacular.

I like this girl also, but I think she had too much expossure in today's episode.

She is fantastic. didn't realize she had such a beautiful voice, but I know the horse she sold "Montana", was bought at an auction where it was to get slaughtered, and is now competing in barrel racing. Does she live in Oregon or Texas? OREGON Baby, I have sold her horse things, but now will be buying her records.

I like her, she's good! I honestly don't care if a contestant had a record deal or not, as long as they are great singers on the show and entertain me, it's all gravy!!! :D

A professional? Wow! Okay, then the show and the judges should mention that in the audition. When they ask them their background, it should be mentioned "you had a contract with Britney Spears production"! Unfair!

I agree JWEIL. Possibly she was dropped by her record company or dropped out on her own because I thought they couldn't already be under contract at audition time. And while it's nice to see singers who have actually done their homework and aren't just looking for a quick ticket to stardom, those who are 'professionals' should not be allowed to audition. This show is supposed to be about finding a great singer who's just never been given a chance. I think there should be a rule saying, something like, they can't audition if they have been under contract within the last, say, three years.

She's good, but the fact that she has already had a record deal bothers me. I think the people should be for amatuers. That is what the show is supposed to be about. I guess not so much anymore.
