I finally got to my DVR to view this. WOW, that was amazing. Mary was right on saying Twitch was dancing like a real man. He looked so graceful and manly at the same time. On the other hand, Mia completely ruined a beautiful moment with her pettiness, not to mention she just wouldn't stop talking. I think this dance will go down as one of the most memorable moments of SYTYCD.
I want to believe Nigel's speech prior to saying who was eliminated was his way of telling Marquis he is a great dancer. I have NEVER been a Susie fan so perhaps I am being unfair here.
Marquis's solo was good. Chris's not as good. However Chris's performance last evening was so much better than Marquis'. Marquis looked so sad and I hurt when he was eliminated.
If I may, this is a good obsession. The variety of dance styles is fun and challenging. Each week you'll see at least a couple of performances that you really enjoy. Occasionally those that sincerely move you.
Some of those that appear as judges also choreograph numbers during the season so they develop a closer relationship with the dancers than the judges on Idol do with the singers.
It's really amazing when for instance a break dancer or popper like Twitch, rises to the challenge and shows that he can dance beautifully as well.
YouTube is full of great samples from previous seasons such as
Hok a breaker and Jaime a contemporary dancer. There have been amazing lyrical, hip hop, Argentine tango, smooth waltz, jive, and even disco numbers in the past 3 seasons just to mention a few that immediately come to mind.
But also it's the getting to know the dancers on a show that doesn't have in-fighting, contention and hard feelings among the contestants. The judges can be a bit annoying at times but what's new?
I hope you get hooked like many of us here have!
I never watch this show but was channel-surfing and caught this performance. I was blown away. It was so beautiful, especially knowing the story behind the choreography. Made me cry! I may have to follow these two (uh, oh, I think I sense another reality show obsession!).
I loved it!!! Out of nowhere, about halfway through the dance, I just burst into tears. If a dance inspires that much emotion, then the dancers have done their jobs.
I really like these two! She seems like a sweetie and Twitch is a very cool, classy guy. I'm so glad they're doing well.
I was dialing for 5 different couples last night! This season is going to bring some disappointment every week because I like so many of them. Actually I like them all just some more than others.
It was a lovely routine.
I don't think Kherrington's smile took anything away from it. It was more of a hopeful dance and I guess that's how I saw her smile.
They both were beautiful and gracefull! Mia was right about the smiling, it was too much. and I agree with hessilou it wasn't a "real" Viennese Waltz but for me that does not take away from its beauty.
Kherington is beautiful, but I thought Twitch was just completely amazing!! The guys stood out to me the most tonight!! =)
I loved this piece - I think her not wearing shoes matched nicely with the movement - it didn't even seem like a Viennese Waltz - it came across as more of a contemporary routine that blended the key elements of a waltz. Just a lovely piece.
That's a very apt observation, flyfog! I wonder how much the wearing of footwear is about dancers' choice or the choreographers' preference on behalf of the routine. But it does appear to place a slight disadvantage for dancers balancing with really high heels such as, Chelsea & Kourtni, this evening.
Does anyone else think Kherington should be in heels? It's giving her an advantage. She should have been in them last week for Broadway, but she was barefoot. Again she should have been in them for the Viennese Waltz.
She's a good dancer, but the plastered on smile is all that I see.
Part of my aversion I guess is that in her intro thing, it was all about soccer, not dance. If dance was such a passion, wouldn't you talk about it?
These 2 are 1 of several perfect pairings this season. Kherington was graceful & elegant. Twitch mightily amazed me. I now wonder what his entire dance background is.
Omg, if anyone has seen SYTYCD Australia, it was just like this dance! LOL. Same song, dance style, clothes ~>
Taking nothing away from Twitch & Kherington, they danced it well. And I feel really sad for Jean Marc & his daughter! :(
