Joining the Grand Ole Opry is the Holy Grail in Country music. Artists dream of the day that they will receive that ever-so-special invitation to join the elite. Last night, Keith Urban was invited by Opry member Vince Gill at the All for the Hall concert in Nashville. The concert also featured Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, and Alabama.
Midway through the concert, Vice invited the Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio, and Rascal Flatts out onto the stage to give Keith “a gift.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to invite Keith Urban to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. Congratulations,” Vince announced. Needless to say, Keith was overwhelmed with emotion, but he was still able to give a little acceptance speech:
“Thank you. Thank you so much. Oh, my God. I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much to everyone at the Grand Ole Opry that made this possible. It’s a huge honor and how beautiful to have this happen tonight of all nights. I have such a long list of people to thank, but especially the fans, but also the people of Nashville. I always wanted to play the Opry and I’ll always remember the first time i played it. I can’t thank you enough, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Keith will be inducted into the Opry on April 21.
