Though the baby isn’t due until Thursday (July 11), Kate Middleton’s child with Prince William has already been made a proper royal.

The offspring of the royal couple has been given an official royal title. Kate Middleton’s official title is Duchess of Cambridge, while Prince William is Duke of Cambridge. So what is the title of the unborn baby?

“The royal couple’s child will officially be known as His or Her Royal Highness Prince or Princess of Cambridge,” a representative for Kensington Palace confirmed to Us Weekly.

The announcement follows Queen Elizabeth II’s proclamation earlier this year which changed a century-old decree made King George V, her grandfather, stating that daughters, even firstborn daughters, would be referred to as “ladies” rather than “princesses.”

“The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patentunder the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title, and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honor,” the Jan. 9 statement from the Palace read. Coincidentally, this decree was made on Middleton’s 31st birthday.

However, while the baby’s title has been made official, a palace aide states that “the couple have yet to decide on a name and probably won’t until the day of the birth.”

Of course, if William and Kate are anything like previous generations of the Mountbatten-Windsor family, they might take a bit longer deciding on a name. Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent seven days deciding on the name William for their eldest son, while Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip took an entire month to settle on Prince Charles.

Naturally, before the name debate can take center stage, Kate has to actually have the child first. Thankfully, preparations are well under way for the child’s arrival, as an insider reports that Middleton is “feeling great,” adding that she’s “full of energy!” Another source adds that the 31-year-old mother-to-be has been busy “making sure she’s done as much as possible for the new house before the baby is born. Once the baby is here, she won’t have time for anything else!”
