Journey’s Steve Perry undergoes surgery for skin cancer
The wearisome journey of Steve Perry is far from over.
The 64-year-old former Journey frontman revealed in a blog post that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. However, Perry believes he’s going to be fine.
“Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back melanoma skin cancer,” he wrote. “I’ve had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I’ve been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required.”
In the emotional post, Perry also reflected on his girlfriend, Kellie Nash, who died in December 2012 after a long battle with breast cancer. Perry would go on to share the story of his courtship of Nash after seeing her image while a friend was editing the 2011 Lifetime anthology Five. The two quickly fell in love, and entered into a relationship that lasted until Nash’s tragic death.
“Though Kellie and I were only together for 1 and 1/2 years, it was a lifetime of love packed into every moment,” he wrote. “God bless my precious Kellie. I loved you before I met you — I love you now — and I always will! “
However, though Perry is still grieving Nash’s loss, he has done his best to remain in good spirits. He shared a picture of his facial scar from the surgery online and lightheartedly compared himself to a character from Pirates of the Caribbean. Though cancer has reaped a terrible toll on Perry’s life, the singer continues to soldier on.
