Jennifer Hudson and Rita Ora Join ‘Empire’

Empire is adding even more stars for its first season, including an Academy Award winner and one of the stars of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Jennifer Hudson and Rita Ora will guest star on the hit drama this season, and while their characters haven’t been revealed just yet, it’s reportedly a possibility that both actresses could end up playing themselves.

They should both be an excellent addition to the series, since Hudson is already a fairly accomplished actress between her Oscar win for Dreamgirls and her roles in such movies as The Secret Life of Bees and Winnie Mandela, the latter of which featured Hudson in the title role alongside Empire‘s own Terrence Howard. Ora, meanwhile, is upping her acting profile, appearing as Christian Grey’s sister, Mia, in the big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, which hits theaters next weekend.

Nearly a month into its run, Empire remains one of network TV’s more impressive ratings successes, which isn’t all that surprising considering it is, in my opinion, one of the most exhilarating new dramas from any major network this season. Hopefully, Ora and J-Hud get a chance to actually bring their musical skills to the show as well, and not just their acting talents.
