thank you so much for positing this , they need to invite the i am your brother guy back for the finale so he can sing with jason , and they should sing this song on the big stage.
Jason you will surely be missed. If it werent for contestant like you (or brooke) we would have had a very very boring year with another aretha, whitney, or stevie-wannabes (they are great artists, but really, can u imagine listening to, say, I have nothing for the god knows how many times in the stage). I know Syesha is very talented, but how predictable can she get, or Archie in that case. For that reason alone Jason, I will forever be grateful to you.
oh god im still thrilled with the elimination.. oh well, i still got archuleta in my heart.. i swore myself that when jason will not win a.i, i'd be rooting for david A. since he is his closest during idol... i'd be looking forward oin jason's album i swear! and ARCHULETA too..
Nothing but love and good wishes for Jason and his family. We can't wait to see you on tour and to buy your cd. You're so genuine in a world full of people full of themselves. We will miss your smile and your beautiful blue eyes.
Que Dios te bendiga! :)
jason is one of my fav contestants on idol of all time , i wish he would have gone longer but he'll be in the finale. hopefully he'll get to sing a lot on the show. there will never be any one like jason ever again on this show, he needs to start working on a cd , i hope it will be good.
Jael #6 : "And I keep crying like a sentimental fool. Oh mercy me."
Oh..me too. Thank God my husband is away on a business trip :) otherwise I wouldn't know how to explain it to him. He doesn't know how attached I was to Jason. Heck, I didn't know how attached I had become until Wed. night! (Well, Thursday morning for me on Rickey's)
Jason made a poster out of me with his snippet during the "Most Embarrassing Moment" video:
"If someone else was me, I'm sure there'd be a lot, but I never get embarrassed, so I don't recall..."
That just sums up Jason for me: he is who he is. God, now I sound like Paula aaarghhh :)
Thanks Miko, I knew that Jason didn't really want to end his run om Idol. He was just under too much pressure with the two songs, and thus he then he knew that three songs for next week would just be even worse for him.
Now I wish I could hear Jason sing "Blue Eyes" How befitting that would be for him.
Miko. I love all your info on Jason. I'll be watching Leno tonight for sure.
I love Jason more and more everyday.
I love lots about this EW article by Jessica Shaw:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Jason, I hear you're upset that I printed the quote you gave to me about wanting to go home. Do we need to make peace?
JASON CASTRO: I'm not upset about it. It's cool. I said it.
I'm glad you're standing by what you said. We got a lot of angry mail about that piece.
The fact of the matter that day was I was in a bad mood. I was frustrated with a lot of things. Then I got on the phone with you. I was just not in a good mood. I couldn't find a quiet place to talk to you and I kept walking around. I couldn't focus while we were talking. I don't even remember much of what I said. There are some days that are just like that. You just don't want to do what you are doing.
Let's talk about Tuesday night. When Simon said no one should ever cover ''I Shot the Sheriff,'' did you think of reminding him that Eric Clapton did a great cover of the song?
You know, sometimes he says things that are obviously wrong. But no, I wouldn't have said that to him. My mom taught me never to make a person look wrong. I am just respectful. It's my place to sing a song and his place to judge.
Is it that hard learning two songs a week?
Oh, definitely. There's so much pressure trying to find the right song. And next week was going to be three songs. I was freaking out. I was as happy getting voted off as I was to make it to the top 24.
To go back a few weeks, I was horrified at how badly your version of ''Memory'' was received. I thought it was really tender and beautiful.
Yeah, I was excited about it. I never watched it over though. It touched me because not belting it out made it more tender to me too. That's the way I felt it. That's how I wanted to sing it.
Did you want to kill Andrew Lloyd Webber for dissing you on stage?
No. I thought it was humorous. He was really very kind, but we're just different people. I don't think he gets me. I saw a lot of passion in him, but he couldn't pick up on my passion.
You always seemed so mellow even when the judges were slamming you. How do you do that?
JASON CASTRO: Well, it's just my mentality. They're just people. We're all just people. There were times early on where you could see my face just die. That was because I didn't feel confident and I'm kicking myself and they just confirmed it. But if I'm sure of a performance I feel confident.
When Paula prejudged your second song, what was going through your head?
I didn't know what was going on. I was so confused. I was standing next to David and I wanted to turn to him and say, ''What?'' I thought the second song was good. I was just confused. It was too funny. But it was an honest mistake.
Did that psych you out of singing your second song well?
It might have a little. I don't really remember. I remember going into it I had a choking fit right before the commercial break. I remember thinking I hope that doesn't happen again. That first line I felt a cough. I just didn't feel right. I didn't have the feel of the song. That was my stronger song in rehearsal, but it became my weaker one.
Last night when you were singing ''I Shot the Sheriff'' again, you looked downright giddy to be singing for the last time on the Idol stage.
I was just so excited. As much as I wanted to be in it, I don't know. It was the realization of, Man, I don't have to deal with song pressure anymore. I was just so happy. That, and I love Bob Marley and reggae music.
So are you excited for the tour or dreading it?
I'm so excited. I can't wait. It's going to be a blast. I have some ideas what I'm going to sing. Maybe one or two I didn't do on the show.
Speaking of next week, what were you going to sing?
Two of the songs would not have been my choice. We were going to be given two songs. For the third, I was deciding between ''Blue Eyes'' by Cary Brothers and ''Green Eyes'' by Coldplay. Next week was all about the eyes.
Next week was going to be all about the eyes...
Damn it! He better do that on tour!
Things he said this morning:
He only got 1 hour of sleep. But he was happy to do all the interviews and all the other stuff.
Really wanted to be in the Top 3! Didn't want to get voted off.
He yawns ALL the time. Not just backstage during the vote off.
5 or 6(?) years ago, his mom helped him do the dreads with hair wax and lots of teasing. You don't wash it at first to get the dreads.
He washes his hair everyday.
Loved doing the group numbers which he said was the best thing about Wednesdays. Loved the singing and dancing. Was out of sync the whole day this Wednesday and couldn't get the steps right.
When it was time to do 2 songs in one week, it was tough because there was less time to work on the songs because of all the extra commitments.
He wants to connect with the songs and make them his own, but "it takes time to fall in love". (love that statement!) So when he had to quickly pick 2 songs that he didn't know, he didn't have time to really get into them which he was frustrating for him.
Is kinda relieved to be out, so he doesn't have to do the 3 songs. There wasn't enough time to do 2 songs, so he didn't know how he was going to fit in 3 songs and do them well.
Thought it was about his time to go after he thought about it after he got voted off.
After getting voted off, he is excited about doing his own songs and not someone elses and said "it's time to get back to the MUSIC!"
He was flustered when it was time to sing MTM. They rushed him out there (I think TPTB did this on purpose!)and he didn't have time calm down and think about the song, so he sorta lost the words. Which he can't believe, because the chorus is repetitive and so easy to remember.
After he forgot the words, he saw Randy shaking his head and thought to himself "Awww, crap!"
I love me some Jason!
He should be on Leno tonight for some goofy thing.
AI Extra on Fox Reality tonight or tomorrow?
He flies to New York on Saturday.
Regis and Ellen on Monday (Ellen is taped on Friday)
I'll try to find the list.
Hey Donna, don't worry about the "vote vote" vs "don't vote". That was the most asked question on the morning interviews.
Jason himself said several times this morning that he said vote vote, but realized later that his mike wasn't on and people might have thought he said don't vote because they sound (mouth) the same.
He wanted to stay and be in the Top 3, it is what it is. Now he can go on tour and work on and sing his own music instead of someone else's music/songs.
I. CANNOT. WAIT!
Look rickey, this is in no oofense to you but u may be the number one reason Jason castro was eliminated yesterday! Why did u vote a million times for Syesha she deserve to leave a logn time ago! and u made a guy that had real potential of making it to the top 3 and u lost all the hope!
Have strep throat, so I can't sit on the computer all day. Just have to say that Jason is way too pure and real for the phoneyboloneyness that is American Idol. Everyone looks so old and ugly and jaded and wretched next to him. I hope, whether a professional music career is ahead of him or not, that he has a wonderful life. What a great kid. Sniff.
Jason's too sweet good unique and cool for American Idol anyway. He was the only thing about Idol that I really liked this season. I think that he missed his life before Idol but he didn't really want to be out. He just smiled and took it like a man with his laid back manner when he heard the he was going home. I'm sure he was relieved yes not having to pick the right songs and not to be under all of the pressure but just maybe deep inside he did want to be the next American Idol. I'll miss Jason and his smiling beautiful face with those gorgeous blue eyes.
I just saw today on Inside edition about how Jason said Don't vote and how it worked because he's voted off.
Miko I believe he said "Vote Vote" but the stupid TV show Inside Edition had no right to say what they thought he said with no proof. Well at least Jason's getting some TV exposure but how rude!
This is another older cool montage but Jason's singing sounds beautiful
Eh, I'm not sure about the Carly/Jason switch. But, I did get the feeling Jason was kinda "done" with the competition.
21--No way Daisy. Learning the songs was killing him. He wouldn't have gotten thru next week, and he's been struggling for the past two weeks. Frankly, he should have been out when Carly was, and Carly should have lasted longer.
He's my favorite voice in the ear, for sure. But he was done.
I've been watching some of his interviews. I never realized how much I liked him personally. He was dying on the show, so I'm glad he's out. (So's he.) But I really do hope that he is able to get out a CD in the next year before the iron gets cold. Most of the studio versions I have and listen to ofter are his.
Will miss him. (Kind of good looking too.)
What a great thread! I'm sad Jason is gone. :( I agree with Slezak, to go from Mute 4 to Final 4 was pretty amazing. I wonder if he could have gone farther if he'd had some air-time up-front? Oh, well, I think Jason will get a deal, and he and his fans (including myself) will be very happy. :)
What he wanted to sing next week: “Blue Eyes” by the Carey Brothers, from the “Garden State” soundtrack.
Thanks for posting this video, Rickey! I'll definitely miss him since there's never been another contestant like him. If you get past the initially-unusual looking exterior, you can truly appreciate his talent!
Oh, I'll miss Jason, too.
I've been a wreck all day. I know he said he "is happy now, just as happy as he was when he made the top 24" but... I don't get my weekly fix of him anymore :( Will we get a schedule of Jason's appearances on shows Rickey? I can't seem to find it anywhere...
Who would have guessed i'd be so into this show-well him... He will be greatly missed- I'm done watching.
Jason, my other favorite. Your real journey begins now. Good luck!!!
A tribute the goofy and lovable dreadhead.
JASON WE LOVE YOU!
I'm sure you've heard by now that Jason has said on his morning interviews that he said "Vote! Vote!" and NOT "don't vote!"
And of course, one of my favorites this season: EW's Slezak who just "gets" Jason:
"And though I was disappointed, perhaps even a little angry, after Jason seemingly threw in the towel on Tuesday, I have to admit I howled when he cheerfully recounted to Ryan that ''somebody told me I shot the tambourine man.'' After all, it was Jason's refreshing lack of camera readiness, his random, bewildered sound bites, that made me a fan in the first place. And let's not forget that for a guy who didn't get a second of significant airtime until week 1 of the semifinals, Jason exceeded expectations, leaving behind a pretty long list of memorable performances, including ''Daydream,'' ''I Just Want to Be Your Everything,'' ''Hallelujah,'' ''If I Fell,'' ''Travelin' Thru,'' ''Over the Rainbow,'' ''I Don't Wanna Cry,'' ''Memory'' (which I still contend was touching, and misunderstood by Simon and Randy), and ''Forever in Blue Jeans.''
Jason's exit package and onstage banter tonight further highlighted his goofy folkster charm: watching him duet on ''Since U Been Gone'' with Renaldo ''Brothers Forever'' Lapuz while waiting his turn to audition; succumb to the will of that crazed kissing bandit while arriving at the Beatles' Love show in Vegas; and, of course, nervously ask Ryan if he was planning to reveal the voting results just 30 minutes into tonight's telecast. (If only!)"
I'm pretty sure his was the happiest/goofiest goodbye package ever! What a class act and natural talent.....I hope he takes all the experience he has gained through his AI journey and gives us a beautiful and quirky debut album!!!
Thanks for all the Jason love, Rickey! We really appreciate it : )
LA Times Rushfield (who's hard to please) said some nice things about Jason:
"And so we bid farewell to Jason Castro, American Idol’s first hippy finalist. With his piercing eyes, goofy remarks, perpetual smile and unmistakable sweet nature, he was a contestant who was impossible not to like. While his musical background was more limited than many of the others, he nonetheless had some star making musical moments and was the sort of genuine find for whom this season will be remembered.
Whether through his music or his personality, Castro always brought a bit of fun to the Idol stage, was never just filler, and for that we wish him well and treasure the time we’ve shared in the Idoldome."
Bringing this over here from my post in the Blue Eyes thread:
Video of the montage AND the happy go lucky singout that always cheers me up after the montage!
jael: sentimental fools are OK! Take it easy today and enjoy the next few Jason filled days. Jason isn't sad and keep checking Rickey and Daydreamingboy.com for Jason updates all summer and before you know it he will be putting out a great album for us just in time for Christmas (one can dream remember)
Jason is pure innocent love.
That montage gets me every single time. God, I going to miss him.
I've never "loved" another contestant more than Jason Castro. He affects people with his music and personality in ways that cannot be described.
:: sigh :: Agreed. Beautiful in & beautiful out. AI will never see the likes of him again. They broke the mold when Jason was made. I love you, Jase. Please don't abandon your all your fangirls. We're going to need a Jason fix as soon as you finish the tour. Please give us more of your exquisite music.
I love that 'so dream big' comment. I wish they would have cut out the ALW and just stuck with positive stuff for his farewell. Maybe his comments about what keeps him grounded. He feels music and lyrics in his heart. I love his comment (in some interview) about how it takes awhile to fall in love (meaning, learning and loving a new song). I will miss you Jason!
This is my very first post here--I've been lurking for a long time now and just had to finally poke my head in. I'm walking around in a daze, so very sad, feel like I lost my best friend. I couldn't sleep last night. I'm going to miss Jason so much... My husband is clueless, doesn't understand. And I keep crying like a sentimental fool. Oh mercy me.
Um, I think you mwan Andrew Lloyd Webberm, wfowfo.
I'm definitely going to miss Jason's quirkiness. Oh, and his whole guitar-playing, dreadlocked, gorgeous self.
Rickey, You are so sweet to keep Jason alive for us! I love the "Kiss" and you know his girls loved it too LOL I like the end, "Dreams really do come true so dream big......"
He really is a beautiful person.
My son was funny when they showed Andrew Lloyd Wright with Jason -- he said 'ewwww... creepy dude! Get away from Jason.. creepy!"
