Doesn't anyone else see it? It's all an act! He will win. Not because he's the most talented, but because the show's a joke and will do anything that tugs at the heart strings. Tears to them are dollars in their pockets. This guy is obviously an actor and a joke. Next!

Hmm.. Lambert and Durbin? Comparing them won't be fair, obviously, cos we know that Lambert is better, hands down.

Durbin is simply an Adam Lambert wannabe.

Those of you bashing James because you think he sounds like Lambert need a reality check and to grow up. ALL 3 judges felt that his range, ability to know and feel the notes, his pureness, and straight from the heart vocals were awesome. Where did you get YOUR credentials? He is a natural, while Lambert had years of training. Give James time to expand during the show and you will see a whole different side to him. What you hear as screaming, the judges hear as hitting the perfect high note without straining his voice with a falsetto. As Jennifer Lopez said, he sings from the heart, where it's supposed to come from. For that, and NOT for his story, he deserves to go all the way. Besides, how many others were told by Steven Tyler that they had sang his song better then even he could AND that he would never be a "pizza delivery" boy since he was going to go as high as his voice. He doesn't win, then just like Lambert this young man WILL have a recording career, pretty sure one of those 3 judges will pull a few strings. JAMES DURBIN ALL THE WAY, BABY!!

@Bev

I'm an Adam fan and I'm 23. And his concert in Manila showed people of different age groups. There were adolescents, teens, old people, people in their mid-20s, and adults. And they aren't just women. The guy in front of me was actually older than my dad, and he knew Adam's songs. That goes to show the diversity of his fan base. Please do a little research before you post something ignorant.

@Greenlee There is a group of people that are far wackier than Adam's fans and those are the BSC people who constantly go to articles about Adam and bash his fans. You are one of them.

It just felt like shouting to me. I wish they would have had him sing another song besides Dream On.

James may have better raw talent than Adam, I doubt he's had more than high school vocal training. But, I think the polish was one of the factors that got Adam a big following. IDK if somebody as raw as James can win Idol.

This guy is 1000x better than Adam. More than 1000x.

I want to put him in more of the same category as Siobhan and Von as opposed to Adam. Adam had annoying fans who wanted to get in his pants. Siobhan had normal fans. I think James will appeal to the normal fans.

Regardless of whether he makes it on the show, can we have him duet with Adam Lambert in the Finale since they have similar singing voices. I think it would be AH-MAY-ZING!!!!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Adam Lambert is far more talented. This sounds more like an attempt to hit Lambert's high notes. Adam's notes are far more polished and far more stronger than those of James Durbin.

Nobody will ever be like Adam of whom I saw in Glasgow last November and I could not believe I was so close and in the same room as him. But this young man has an incredible vocal and has the likability factor. Hope he goes far.

This guy was good & it will be interesting to see if his song selection & arrangements are as smart as Adam's were. However, he brings up a more intriguing line of thought....would America have voted Adam as the winner if he were a struggling family man with a young child instead of a flamboyant homosexual? I think Adam should have won his season, but middle America wasn't ready for him. This guy could be the anti-Adam-Lambert-Adam-Lambert....crazy chops that make the girlies swoon & a great drama story for the bible belt to get behind.

Has anybody with a sob story ever won though?

Ugh. I thought we got Adam Lambert out of our hair when season 8 ended..

If you ask me he is an Adam Lambert wannabe.
Why do we want another one with half of the talent. Plus the ver pimping of this guy was ridiculous.
I really hope he doesn´t win this year. I loved Clint way more...

first song was great, dream on wasn't very good

And we have a winner!! He's got it all - the voice of Adam Lambert and about ten sob-stories all rolled into one...he'll get the votes

Jeccica, this article isn't about Lambert. You fans, per usual, make it about him. It's about this kid James Durbin.

Oh PLEASE, you women are INSANE. Everyone knows it, and now people outside of the AI bubble are seeing exactly who the "glamberts" are and what they do. Nuts. All of them. They spam, they threaten, they name call, they bully, they obsess. If there are "normal" fans of Lambert, then they don't go online, because I've never, ever come across a casual fan who isn't OTT, opinionated and RUDE. Every, and I mean EVERY picture I see of his fans, they are all older women trying to dress like 20 somethings. Adam Lambert, rock star. L O freaking L.

Wrong. Von Smith 2.0

Carole

Yeah--I agree that he just might be better than Adam. The polish thing--yeah--that was a big attraction that Adam had. But, the complete lack of polish could work the same for James.

I really liked the guy. I know some think it's shouting, sobeit. I think it's totally over the normal range singing. I am a fan of it. I wish they had let him do the chorus of Dream On.

I am looking forward to more from James. I am already a fan. This is gonna be a darn good year, jmho.

Lisa
Lisa

Ha! Let's see if this guy will be nominated for Grammy for his solo effort. I don't even think he will be signed to a major record label . He is Von Smith 2.0 and has NO star quality whatsoever.

Greenlee
Greenlee

It's been almost 2 years since Season 8, and I can honestly say, Adam Lambert has THE MOST RUDE, ANNOYING, OPINIONATED, MEAN AND BULLYING group of older lady fans that I have EVER come across on all my years of being online. People thought the Claymates were insane, the glamberts took the crown, the scepter, the cape and the title. Even if I did like the way Lambert sings (his voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me), I don't think I could handle EVER being a fan of him because of the way they act. They're ruining him. I watched The Talk when he was on, and saw old women in the audience WITH SIGNS for Adam. SIGNS!! Who in the hell does that? It was a freaking talk show and these old lady fans BROUGHT SIGNS. Wow, what a "rock star", Adam. Grandmas in the audience hold up signs they made. Awesome.

Greenlee
Greenlee

This guy also hasn't been in the "business" for years, nor hasn't been seen by countless people in the industry like Adam has, nor did he exhaust every opportunity to "make it" like Adam did, nor did he try out for AI as a last resort from a drug induced idea he got while under the influence of hallucinogens.

honeybeej

unlike adam, james didn't have the training from years of singing in broadway/theater. they're both talented though.

Were you close enough to smell the glambulge, Mary? Good for you!!!!

Yeah, Cook never spoke about his older brother who was fighting cancer (Adam) and the general viewing public didn't know about it. The brother he did talk about auditioning with was his younger brother (Andrew). I applaud Cook for refusing to go there even though Ryan was trying to pry some info out of him the night after he was taken to the hospital for high blood pressure. But Cook never said a word. I really get tired of seeing all the sob stories every year. People should get ahead on merit not their background.

Chessguy99
Chessguy99

Fantasia is the only sob story, out of the box. Cook's audition had an interview where he mentioned he went the the audition with his brother and that's it. Cook was firmly established as a frontrunner by the time any mention of his brother's cancer was made. Even then, they dragged it out of him by a judge questioning him about the AC on his guitar.

Glenn
Glenn

David Cook technically had a sob story but he never hawked it like Fantasia or Danny Gokey. Nobody knew about Adam until Mariah Carey week, and even then, he didn't want to talk about it.

I have now my AI10 bet. I agree that his voice resembles Adam's voice but Adam is much better than him. However, no doubt he's more talented than Siobhan Magnus.
