i would have much preferred 1 of the songs from RockStar, im also a lil confused on how this song is heavy metal. The original studio is pretty weak, this 1 hits harder but i dont see how its metal. ironically to me this "Metal" song had the most randomly and pointless screams of all his songs. We All Die Young would have been a far superior song choice and performance
I abhor metal, but completely enjoyed James tonight. And it takes something to have me enjoy a metal performance. Great Job, James, and superb famous never heard of you before guitarist!
I don't believe for a second Iovine is gonna put 2 or 3M behind him. He's there as a filler to make reality Tv show more interesting, which apparently works when you're a 50+ year old woman, I on the other hand had to mute it last night. What a scary horrible mess. *kanyeshrug*
He's so irrelevant next to everything that is popular in music nowadays. Heck he's irrelevant even staying next to Hicks and Aiken.
I secretly hope it bites Nigel back in the a** and he wins the whole thing. And i want Iovine's face expression on my TV at that very moment. They're so busy to create 'the perfect TV moment' this season - this is one fine moment righ there.
James rocked the house last night!!! He is very talented and gives 110% every time he performs. James you are so good it's crazy! Keep it up!
I love James - and tonight was no exception - he could put on a whole concert right now and rock the house - he is simply amazing and will be a huge star!!!!
I was BLOWN AWAY from his performance tonight. I completely geeked out upon seeing Wylde's famous guitar. This performance was the return to form that I wanted to see ever since the second week. He's been stellar ever since the beginning, but this is the first time since You've Got Another Thing Comin' that I really saw the true, unadulterated artist that he is again. This is what he's meant to do, he is meant to do the hard rock/heavy metal thing, nothing more nothing less. He has artistic integrity and an unwillingness to deviate from what truly resonates with him.
James is prolly the most powerful vocalist on AI yet. He goes all the way to the edge, yet it still feels limitless.
I'm still not sold on this one. I need to hear the audio again.
Right now, I think the shtick and the guest guitarist hid the fact that the vocals were just OK.
It still may have been the most entertaining performance of the night, which overall just wasn't that great.
He was screaming instead of singing tonight. His weakest performance,
I normally like his singing but he tries to show off his voice by hitting that high note every week. He is now predictable in doing that every week.
Trying to hard to be Adam Lambert.
That is boring to me.
BEST. PERFORMANCE. TONIGHT. I loved the idea of bringing metal to the stage, and having one of the masters of metal there, it was the super-delicious icing on the already delicious cake. GO, JAMES, GO!!!
Ok so where is the usual video??? If you click on "SOURCE" it just takes you to the AI site and tonight's videos aren't there yet!!!!
I love James' enthusiasm and the fact that he is so unpredictable and unfiltered. The performance wasn't bad but I can't help but feel he was overshadowed by Zakk Wylde. (Can we say AMAZING?)
Wow there may actually be hope for Haley yet....an indulgent mess......Its American Idol...Not Guitar Hero....
Zakk Wylde - 10
James - 6.5
Overall a poor showing by all the contestants.....no one really kicked ass, and all fell short of what they're capable of. A week to forget.
Wow he just took Paul to school on that one. Paul's performance skills are good but James' are GREAT. Truly made Paul look like an opening act and that's hard to do!
please rickey, er nicole?, please, don't make me watch jacob's video again - i want me some james - hehehe
These Adam Lambert comparisons are quickly losing relevance. At first, his use of glory notes at the end was reminiscent of Glambert, but that's pretty much where the similarities end.
I don't think James is a poseur - He was the frontman for a metal group in Santa Cruz, and he's consistently picked songs that show a thorough knowledge of rock history: Judas Priest, 2 Beatles songs, Bon Jovi, and now Sammy Hagar. I also think his YouTube of Dio is ridiculous - such a difficult song to sing.
Adam has never EVER portrayed himself as a hard rocker, let alone a metal fan. Maybe the black eyeliner was misleading. He was more in the mold of a David Bowie/Cher performance artist who was just as comfortable on Broadway as he was on stage. But he's definitely a solo artist, not a band member.
So logically, it follows that people who liked Adam don't necessarily like James - their musical point of views are completely different. But that doesn't make James inherently un-talented.
Really man? so you're saying that this is a poor performance?
i gotta say the Casey and James killed the show!!!! :D
Stefano, not one of my favorites, impressed me, it's hard to impress me.
he really had his best performance i have seen him have
though i think he may have been under dressed.
Casey and James dominated the show tonight though.
It's funny to see Bev fantarding over James Durbin.
The fact is that James is not a rock star and his fanbase( a.k.a. Durbinators) is made up mainly of delusional older women who claim he can bring heavy metal music back to the mainstream. Sorry to burst your bubble, but don't expect anyone coming off of idol to be able to bring back an entire genre of music that's been dead for over 30 years. Especially one where the fans of the genre aren't exactly the main demographic watching the show and wouldn't take someone coming off the show seriously. They are not fooled by a flaming piano. He loves to use gimmicks, but how is having a famous guitar player on stage fair to the other contestants. James is not free from criticism and his fans need to stop bring up his Asperger's whenever someone dares to criticize him. FYI, Scott MacIntyre was visually impaired but he was not free from criticism.
James voice is average at best. He is being pimped by the judges and the producers which I don't like and if you take away the lights and great guitar work it is just average. Yawn.
