Jamar Rogers — “The Show is Danny’s for the Taking”

Sorry but Danny has mentioned the departed wife one too may times for me and I need to file it under the "tastless" and "oppotunistic" catagories. It might just be the produecrs looking for personal stories for mileage, but can't Danny say "No, this was my wife and I won't exploit her for fame".....

To the poster who said didn't Jamar and Danny just become friends. The answer is "no". They sung together in Church and Danny helped Jamar though a health crisis before Danny lost his wife and then Jamar helped him. They are friends.
It is so hard to read this hateful bashing. One poster above started out by saying I am a compassionate person and then went on to mention dead-wife pimping, which shows no compassion whatsoever. Whether you like Danny's style of music or not (which I happen to like), I don't fo rthe life of me understand how people can be so cruel about someone losing the love of their life.

I simply do not like Mr Gokey's voice. I prefer Mr Lambert's and Mr Allen's.

This isn't aimed at personality.

You know what I have to say?
I think it is very unfair what everyone is saying about Danny.
Yes, he lost his wife, and yes, the producers made it into a sob story at his audition.
But, they usually make a video package at the auditions of the really good contestants to give them a push.
What they did for Danny was really no different for what they did for that cowboy guy who was going to have his first kiss when he was married or something...David Archuleta had a package about his vocal paralyis... and I'm pretty sure Kellie Pickler had one...

Plus, Danny hasn't said one word about Sophia after the top 13...its everyone ELSE bringing it up. If people ask him a question about his wife, I'm pretty sure he's allowed to answer! And Jamar can bring up Danny's wife without getting bashed, but Danny can't?
He is not trying to use his wife for votes. I do not know him personally, but he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would do that.
Now, you can all have your opinions on his singing and everything, but please, can we try for ONCE not to bring his wife into this?

P.S. I know technically I just brought Sophia into it, but she was already in it, so I'm trying to bring her out. It's a SINGING competition, so let's focus on the singing part!

P.P.S. I think he is a very talented singer who will go very far in the competition and beyond!

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but Jamar needs to STFU. Danny is going to get eliminated, just like Jamar was.

Adam and Allison are so unique in terms of voice, and in referring to musical arrangement, Adam and Kris bring something new to the table.

What does Danny do? Bring a mediocre, clumsy performance to the show. Big whoop; it's Taylor Hicks version 2.

Rickey just posts for our benefit. Either way he tries to pimp each contestant equally. So let's back off him.

Jamar was so full of it just like Danny. I don't dislike Danny because of his backstory, I dislike him because he comes across really smug, douchy, calculating and is a hokey performer.

Just speculation, but here's my opinion... for people who complain about Danny trying out for the show so soon after his wife died, I think he was probably close to the American Idol 28-year-old age limit cut-off when he tried out, so it was probably a "now or never" situation, and something to help him get his mind off the sad life situation he was in.

To me, it is very sad that people are so harsh towards others, especially in online blogs like this.

The American Idol producers control the face time and image portrayed of each contestant, so if you get mad at anyone, perhaps they are the ones who should be the recipient of your anger.

I pretty much agree with "soundslike" on the matter. I was never upset with Danny mentioning the loss of his wife Sophia as I could never imagine such a loss and it was his to share with us -- though I thought the producers spent way too much time with the subject. His own personality (and generic voice) is where we part ways -- just am not enamored with either.

Jamar looks ridiculous with that hat and that thing on his lip.

I simply don't care for Danny's personality or his voice for that matter. I have no problem with his mentioning of his wife's passing either. I do though, have a problem with the show making it such a story and giving Danny an unfair amount of air-time. Take someone like Felicia Barton... there was no story there and her talent, in my opinion, was overlooked by fans.

I think that if Danny were to actually win this year, he'd be yet another case where he fails to make his mark and ends up losing his record deal and finds himself singing on Riverboat casinos.... not that that is such a bad thing.

I am a compassionate person... but I don't like it when people try to get too much mileage from their personal issues. This is a talent show, not Queen For a Day.... too much "dead wife pimpin" for me... I really liked him at first, but it was a turn off.

I think like Jamar said it helped people to notice Danny, but I guess even with a sob story if you are not a good singer you wouldn't go this far. I am not really a Danny fan but when he sings it has full of emotion. also I think it is disrespectful for haters especially to his wife and her family.

Ya know...I am 37. My husband died last year. What I have learned in the past year is that there is certainly a difference in treatment between young widows and those who are older. The pain is still just as bad when you're 24, 44 or 84 when you lose your spouse but there is a definite stigma when you're younger. Not all people are insensitive but I have been on the receiving end of some pretty rotten comments. I am amazed at the lack of compassion and all this talk about Danny just takes the cake. It validates how I have felt the past year. And this poor guy has to do it in public. He's trying, people. He's trying to live with his loss. You can't move on. It doesn't work that way. You learn to live with it. Kudos to him for pursuing a dream. I wish him well and I am cheering him on because he deserves a chance to be happy again. Any compassionate person would wish him that - like his style of singing or not.

Seriously, can we just not talk about Danny? I don't care one bit about him or his sad story. People make way too big a deal on it. Its just getting to be too much. Yeah, I personally do not like him as a singer, but respect should be given. He did make top four for a reason.

Anyway, Jamar on the other hand shouldn't be so confident. Cause ny girls gonna strike and take the crown!

Wow. Since I've been following RIckey since the Fantasia days, I am a little surprised at the Rickey hate regarding this video. IMHO, I believe Rickey posted it not as "another way to show Gokey hate" but to present some positive vibes for him. Yet it is perceived as more hate. Let's see some love here and back off the anger.

I can't imagine losing my spouse, especially at such a young age. I've been pretty disgusted about all of the hate on this subject. Almost anything he does can be interpreted poorly — he wears the ring, he's exploiting the situation; he doesn't wear it, he's an insensitive prick who never loved her in the first place. You know, I supremely enjoyed Jamar's "Hey There Delilah" audition during Hollywood week, replayed it countless times & wished that he could have progressed to the 36. Perhaps, next year. Hopefully.:)

However, I sure don't need him or anyone else in the Danny camp feeding me BS because the presumption is that Gokey has a definite lock on victory due to Adam's stunning appearance in b3 yesterday.

I really like Jamar and it was fun watching him and Danny together in Hollywood. I thought he should have made it to the top 36.

It was their close friendship that made me root for Danny even more, not the dead wife back story.
