Jacob Lusk blames Jimmy Iovine for ‘No Air’ disaster

Yes! Jacob Lusk is not going to go away quietly!
TMZ reports that Jacob said that Jimmy pressured him to sing ‘No Air‘ (you know, the song where he had to sing the girl’s and boy’s verses — singing to himself basically).
What’s this? Booted contestants spilling on the show so early after they are eliminated?
This can only mean one thing: X Factor (which is 10x the Idol drama) is going to be so amazing!
From TMZ:
American Idol” reject Jacob Lusk is telling friends he’s not to blame for the TERRIBLE song choices that led to his elimination this week … insisting he got BAD advice from Jimmy Iovine.
TMZ spoke with a source extremely close to Lusk … who tells us Jacob never wanted to perform the Jordin Sparks /Chris Brown duet, “No Air” on Wednesday’s show … but Iovine pressured him into it.
We’re told Lusk really wanted to perform the Gnarls Barkley hit, “Crazy” — but Iovine was so insistent on “No Air” that he basically “beat it into his brain” until Lusk finally gave in and agreed to perform the song.
During the show, Randy Jackson told Lusk, “I don’t think that’s the direction for you … I don’t think anybody on this stage should be doing duet songs.”

First i would like to say, I think that if you read the article on TV Guide.com, and also view Good Day LA, Jacob said, "He made the mistake." . It is amazing how we can sit in the seat of judgment, always finding something wrong with words or ones singing, yet most of us can’t hold a noted or we would have been on past shows such as "big Breaks, Star Search, etc."
I think it is amazing that no matter how far Lusk got, he got it and still came out a winner, for people the know him, family, and friend, are proud of his accomplishments.
Take note if it was your family, friend, neighbor or someone you know you would be proud of them no matter where they end up. The votes were there no matter how people on this page hate him. What happened to the society of people in America that cheered on even its losers in the Olympics, or other competitions, and gave the pat on the back and say "better luck next time" what happen to that America?
Have we become so desensitized that we gloat over ones short comings. Whatever number he completed he did it with a spirit of trying. I totally disagree with one saying "America" didn’t love him this again is one persons opinion and judgment call. Someone was watching and cheering to get him to #5 out of 25,000. Hum, again what happen to that America? Jacob must prepare himself for the America (now) which is seemingly very harsh and harsher words are still yet to come.. I do respect everyone’s comments and all those who are sending positive words his way.
I at one time raised an eyebrow about his comment (man in the mirror), yet the very next day, I did say maybe it didn’t mean a "force" vote, but really what the song meant to convey, for I myself didn’t get mad at Michael Jackson for telling us to all to Look in the Mirror to examine how we could help someone. Sometimes we all say things (other than perfect people in America) that didn’t come out right, and place judgment on those that seem confident in themselves. I think that the reason some are offended with Jacob and label him “Diva” (which is offensive and derogatory) and say he is so full of himself is because most depict the image of most "Young African American" male as being broken down, a drug dealer, druggie, etc.
Here we have a young inspired male, now in the face of millions of people on Wednesday and Thursday nights, with a tangible dream, a goal and a purpose, holding his head up in the face of cruel comments, haters, and wicked people and saying, "Look young people, no matter what color you are, no matter how poor you may be or been, if you dream dream BIG, if you vision vision BIG, for if you work hard, hold to your dream, your dreams and visions will come true."
I hope my words though some will hate, will help in the future to help all see, no matter who your favorite singer maybe, and no matter who your hero is, we must appreciate the struggle they all have come from and give the little pat on the back and say "Things will get better, just keep trying"
Oh yea, and my comment about a young African American was not racist, for I am an African American myself and say Jacob did mess up many times only three great performances the others are a work in progress, however, all races that saw the good and the struggle continue to give that hope week after week that you can make it if you try and no matter what number you end at, we appreciate the competition and that you struggled hard to make it to the end.
My grandmother said to me one day regarding race, "Son, never hate anyone for there where more fighting for you than it was against you, otherwise, we would all still be bound in chains." Good luck to you Jacob for whatever may come in your future, for if we all had a mind to succeed, we could look honestly in the mirror (without offense) and say "I see myself in the future, and things look a whole lot better."
Just Keepinitreal4u!
That is an inaccurate assumption. Singing is not a rare talent, by any stretch of the imagination. There is an endless source of talented singers across the world, which is why these shows are able to exist and multiply.
I love the crotch grabbing photo Rickey! LOL! This guy is a mess. He is not that great of a singer, has zero charisma and a crappy personality...arrogance and this 'holier-than- thou' persona. I do not belieive he had enough votes to outlast any of the top 9, sorry. Don't buy it. I really think this is the same with Mike last year and Syesha the year prior--they want to keep an AA in for appearances. BS. He sucked, he's out. Good riddance!
Jimmy didn't want James Durbin to sing "Heavy Metal", but James held his ground.
Perhaps Jacob should have toughened up a little bit? If you continue to be "nice" in the business, you won't get far.
I don't know him personally, but Jacob comes across to me like an only child who's been spoiled, having all the attention. He gives off the vibe of entitlement. I don't like that about him.
Then he's to blame for not standing up for himself. He takes credit when the song is good even when it was just suggested to him, but blames the other person when the song goes bad. He should have said no. Having said that, I think Jimmy Iovine is an irritant on the show.
Hey,rickey ,shut your mouth up,you are the most annoying person in the world,How dare you told that it means x factor could be amazing, ohh,it relly doen's have little connection
What? This is his blog and he's entitled to an opinion just like you, although prefer you would keep it to yourself. What does your comment even mean????
Its jacob fault if he didnt wanna sing it dont sing it but its been pretty clear atleast to me anyway all season that jimmy and his team are the ones picking there songs and not the contestants which is wrong jimmy and his team just need to disappear.
I saw him on Good Day LA this a.m. & he seems like a very NICE person to me. I just don't get where all this hate is coming from.
what the!?!??! i sure heard him say that those kind of songs are the ones he wants to record! jacob went home so enough of the crappy thoughts. look in the mirror jacob! hahaha!
I don't think "No Air" was a bad song choice, nor do I think it is inherently written as a duet. If you read the lyrics, or sing it to yourself, it just sounds like it's some desperate song about not being able to live without someone.
I think the blame lies solely with Jacob singing it extremely poorly; though, if it's true he never wanted to sing it, that's pretty lame pressuring him into it.
I totally agree. It's a poppish song, and he did not sell the song. And that's what you do, you sell the song.
I'm with Matt. Kris Allen did a terrific job with the "Falling Slowly" duet. So you can't blame the duet. Let's face it, Jacob stinks as a singer and as a performer. But I will give Jacob something--it wasn't entirely his fault for his poor performances week after week. He got terrible critiques from the judges who were of no help for him. And that includes Jimmy Iovine too!
He should have been eliminated weeks ago. Every time he sang, I changed the channel. The screaming does not mean good singing. Glad he is gone.
Regardless of if this is true or not, Jacklyn would've still went home this week and that's all that really matters.
Why am I not surprised that the diva would find someone to blame for his poor song choices? He could have said no and stuck to his guns and done what he wanted. He doesn't come across like a very nice person, and I don't think the other contestants like him much, either. There seemed to be a riff going on there. I'm so glad he's finally gone.
Well, I'm not sure it's true and I think Jacob will be asked that question in his press interviews. Someone at another board, thinks that Nigel or another Fox employee put that out to make him look bad. I cannot see anyone at this stage of the game saying anything about Iovine like this esp. if you have to kow-tow to him and get a contract.
Second, I'm not sure Iovine "pressured" him or pushed him to sing No Air. Jacob could have pushed back and said no, I'm not doing it. So what did Jimmy I do, lock him in a closet into he screamed uncle? Not buying this story the way it is.
Not only that if you watch the clips, Jacob seemed pleased to be singing the song. And even Sheryl said it was the right thing to do.
Finally, I don't think Jacob is "all that"....he's not a great talent although he thinks he is and the judges told him he was. Too bad, but I wouldn't want to see him in concert or open for anyone.
I'm not buying Jacob's ridiculous story either. I'm sure Jimmy Iovine "strongly suggested" Jacob do "No Air" just as Jimmy strongly suggested Casey do "In The Air Tonite" or whatever that Phil Collins' song was. But Casey stuck to his guns and did "Nature Boy" and it paid off. Jacob could've done the SAME THING! To me, Jacob comes across like a big crybaby. Grow up. And that includes your pre-puberty voice too!

JACOB LUSK ALONG WITH JAMES DURBIN IN MY OPINION SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FINAL TWO! HE HAD THE MOST DYNAMIC AN POWERFUL VOICE. ALL HE NEEDED WAS BETTER SONG CHOICES, ALONG WITH THE RIGHT ELEMENT! I'VE BEEN SINGING AN WRITING SONGS FOR FIFTY PLUS YEARS I KNOW A LOT ABOUT PERFORMING. YOU'LL BE HEARING FROM JACOB LUSK WHEN THE OTHERS BECOME ONE HIT WONDERS....EXCEPT JAMES DURBIN HES A REAL SHOWMAN....THEIR STARS WILL SHINE WHILE THE OTHERS WILL RUST... MR.LEE LOVE LOVES ALL GREAT SINGERS!
