Jackie sang very lovely again and this time her voice was even more powerful. Song suited her better than Time to Say Good-bye. However, although she is a great talent and an angel, her voice is still very old for a child of 10 or 11 and I still say she is being amplified to sound older as they realise this is a gimmick that will sell records.

And I am not a hater. I do not like rap music, I enjoy opera and pop and rock and blues and a lot more; and I am entitled to my opinion the same as anyone else. Just because you do not fully believe something to be totally true does not mean that you hate that person, or their success or their talent. It is idiots who call other people who have different views haters, and that is offensive.

Jackie has a great voice, but it is impossible to come from a 10 year old, and that is just my opinion. Having said that, without the gimmick she probably also sounds beautiful in any event and she is a charming child.

It's best Michael Grimm won; Jackie could not have headlined the touring show in 25 cities -- she has to go to school! So apparently her folks have settled on 10 cities. Also Michael Grimm needs the money to help his grandparents get a new home. He's a humble and deserving guy. He knows that Jackie was the only one with world-class talent on the show, and has practically said as much. She's got an incredible future in front of her. For Michael, this was his best and, realistically, only shot. I'm glad the voting ended up as it did. For one thing, it showed how amazingly gracious Jackie can be when coming in second. She's not just preternaturally gifted, she's amazingly mature and sweet.

Jackie Evancho once again wowed America last night with her performance of Pie Jesu (which received yet another standing ovation) before a packed house on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno! Actor Jimmy Smits said that Jackie sounded "like an angel, like a voice from God"! As an added bonus, we got to see Jackie do a chear! AMAZING!

It was indeed an enormous pleasure to be able to see two massivley talented individuals performing on the America's Got Talent Stage simultaneously, when the vast majority of the time there's only one talented performer (Jackie Evancho) in the entire show! I have to admit though, that I was a little shocked (on top of being completely mesmerized) but Sarah and Jackie's performance. When Jackie first started singing I thought to myself "Oh my God, that's Sarah's trademark song! You're about to get blown completely off the stage, kid"! Jackie did a great job opening the song as usual, but when Sarah came out I figured it was all over for the poor, overmatched child prodigy. Then one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a live show took place! The feisty ten year old stepped it up a notch above even her normal amazing self, and stayed right with the legendary Sarah Brightman while singing a duet of a trademark Brightman song which Sarah has performed literally thousands of times on stages all over the world! I honestly didn't think the kid had it in her, but she surprised the hell out of me! All those who voted against Jackie should now be completely embarrassed at their complete lack of musical "savy", and be compelled to listen endlessly to Prince Poppycock's inane banter and Michael Grimm's bland, uninspired "crooning" until their brains are completely fried like Michael Grimm's biggest fan, Ozzie Osbourne!

I'm really looking forward to seeing Sarah Brightman coming tonight. I think Sarah sees Jackie's potential. If anyone would know, it would be Sarah Brightman. It's good timing as well as I think Jackie could really use some sage (stage) advice from someone of Sarah's calibre.

As for the idiots still trying to convince us that Jackie is lip synching, it will be nice how they explain how Sarah thinks Jackie is the real deal. Being the buttheads that they are, I'm sure that they think they know better than her. Morons seem to be incapable of recognizing that they are morons. That's why they're morons.

HeatherM, although you do appear to have had a small amount of vocal training, and you also appear to have some basic knowledge relating to human anatomy, I can assure you that the decades I have spent training and performing all over the world more than qualify me as an expert in the field of opera performance. While it is indeed anatomically impossible for a ten year old male to exhibit mature vocal processes, it is quite possible for a ten year old female to do just that. However, it normally takes an unbelievable amount of talent and years (if not decades) of training to accomplish what Jackie has accomplished in just two short years. The term I used earlier ("prodigy") to describe her actually doesn't do her justice, because her raw vocal talent exceeds that of even most operatic prodigies. I can assure you with one hundred percent certainty that she does indeed sound exactly as you hear her on your television set when performing live. In fact, she probably sounds much better live simply because most home theatre systems do a very poor job of accurately reproducing sound. Any way you slice it, Jackie stands head and shoulders above any performer ever seen on America's Got Talent, and probably head and shoulders above any performer who will ever be seen on America's Got Talent (or any amateur talent show for that matter). Even though she's only ten years old, she already exhibits the potential to eventually become possibly one of the most talented opera singers to ever grace a stage. By the way, I would encourage everyone to attend Jackie's upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 2, 2010, where she will become the youngest female vocal soloist ever to perform in that vaunted concert venue.

Having been in choir eight years, and practicing under some amazing vocalists I have always been told one thing. The vocals of a child will never be that of a woman's/man's and that is simply because their vocal chords have not matured enough maintain a tenor and bass quality at the level of adults. A vocal chord grows, like any other body part over the years, and the smaller the chords the higher the notes and tunes are that a child can sing, that's why boy's choirs can sound like little girls is because typically until they hit their puberty growth spurt their vocal chords are very comparable to that of little girls. As the chords lengthen and grow, the sounds grow in depth. It is physically impossible for this girl to sing in such a manner as is portrayed on the show. Her videos on youtube are nice, she is a nice singer, and as she grows older she may truly have to talent to sing like she's been made out on AGT. However, again, with the ability she portrayed only weeks prior on youtube, and her age, and the advancement of sound boards (which can control the sound quality put off by mics) I 100% disbelieve she truly sounds that way. I also feel terrible for her if they've done anything to add interest to the show at the cost of this girl's musical pride, because essentially the only one to be hurt by this is her.

After observing Prince Poppycock somehow make the final four of the 2010 edition of the America's Got Talent competition, I'm actually considering investing in several outrageous costumes and strutting around on stage while singing off key during next season's America's Got Talent competition. I figure that by doing so the worst I can do is make the final four, and I might even have a shot at winning the whole ball of wax!

On a serious note, the only competitor deserving serious consideration for winning this competition is (drumroll please) none other than the ten year old opera singing prodigy herself, the incredible Jaqueline Marie Evancho! The other three acts in the 2010 A.G.T. finals are strictly amateuristic dribble. Evancho, and only Evancho exhibits the raw talent only seen by many individuals once in their entire lifetimes. Anyone who feels differently knows absolutely nothing about talent, let alone opera singing, which is by far the most demanding form of singing in existance, and which this "child" manipulates as if she was a well seasoned professional.

PamCA

I think it may be Rick's video. I've seen others where the singing didn't look out of sync at all.

As far as those critiquing her 'unusual' mouth movements...that's how operatic singers are trained in order to get the most volume, pure sounds, etc. ...and she is quite well trained, especially given her age.

So much nonsense posted here. "Should be singing at the Metropolitan Opera"? Insane. Can she learn even one whole role, not to mention sing dozens of multiple-hour operas per year? And that tiny voice would not be heard beyond the third role in that house (where of course there is no amplification). She is singing in a way that is not good for her voice, and -- like Charlotte Church -- she is being exploited for short-term profits.

Some of the testimony above is so bogus, too. Studied with "a student of Beverly Sills"? She never taught students in her life. An angel? Looks like a perfectly nice young human to me. Her confidence and poise are really superior, but many, many children have just as good a voice and many have much better musicianship.

So, if you enjoy her, that's really good. But let's not get carried away. It's bad for art and really, really bad for her. Look at Charlotte Church, who very quickly turned into a cheap embarrassment.

so she has an amazing voice and should be singing with the metropolitan opera in nyc....but VEGAS? i would much prefer to watch defying gravity or the poppycock dude. they are way more vegas than this child. When Ive been drinking and gambling for days i can't really see buying tickets for the jackie evancho show...or celine dion!!

This auto-tune scandal will eventually be exposed and we will wonder about every professional singer. It reminds me of professional athletes who are very close in talent using designer drugs to rise above their compatriots. One will wonder does Carrie Underwood,Leann Rhimes,Celine Dion,Kelly Clarkson use auto-tune and how much in their live performances.Jackie is such a sweet kid and I hope she wins the show, because frankly, the rest are circus act freaks and no talent singers.

I hope when the obvious truth comes out, that all these religious wackjobs who are insulting the rational will be apologizing. You need to stop believing everything church and the tv tells you.

The phrase "practice makes perfect" is not to be taken literally; people can never achieve perfection. There is no feasible way she is singing like this live. Even famous singers such as Mariah Carey and Celine Dion are guilty of using electronic tricks in their live performances.

Don't come in, pretending to be some music teacher or professional opera singer, and insulting people who are simply pointing out the obvious; because we all know you aren't.

I won't say it's not her voice in there, but I will say, with reasonable certainty, that this is not live. For those who just link her othe rperformances as some kind of evidence, you are making yourself look bad. If anything, her other performances prove that this is not live.

For the commenters above who think Jackie is fake because of delays, etc: It is true that seeing this video from this site seem to indicate "something is wrong" . However, I have watched her live on TV and it is completelly different: no delays no lack of sync, your can still hear her breath (although she improved a lot since her last act). I do not beleive at all that Jackie is fake, or lip- syncing on her own recording no more that I beleive that Obama is a muslim (poor him, he's being punished trying to repair the freaking mess left being by his predecessor) or that we (human) never made it to the moon. What you see here is just due to bad streeming video. Being a Canadian, I'm watching wha't going on in the states and quite frankly, some of the stuff I hear on your internal politics is scaring me. Please come back to earth and stop seing conspiracy all over the place. The only conspiracy that exist is that rich people are becoming richers year after year at the expense of the rest of us. I do not know if Jackie is an angel, nor do I know if such being exist, but she certainly sound like one ! I can not vote from here but she needs all of you ! I love Jackie.

If you heard her voice, without seeing her, and compared her voice to mature singers, I think you would see that she does not have a great voice- she has a very nice voice. We are responding to the freakishness of this sound coming from a child. And when she does mature her voice will change, and if she thinks her voice is her, she will have difficulties.

Michelle M.
Michelle M.

Much improved over last week. The arrangement allowed her voice to be at the focal point, rather than being overshadowed by the backup, and the hand gestures were much less...random. I also think simpler, less demanding pieces such as "Pie Jesu" are an appropriate fit for her voice right now. Until her instrument matures and she can physically handle "bigger" songs, she'll not only risk mistakes like last week, but also injuring herself. I hate to see young singers hit the business only to blow out their voices to meet the demand for more and more challenging numbers.

I would like to say I am a professional singer and this little girl who may have talent is mimicking. When she was little her parents must have gave her a cd to listen to and she now mimics the song the way the person had sung the song. True musicians know what she is doing and it will only hurt them in the long run. It's not hard at all to do. Thats why people are comparing her to Charlotte Church, because its the exact same. I'm not trying to rude or mean or anything like that, all I'm saying is that when she hits puberty you won't understand how she sung like that at 10. Why? Because she is mimicking. I'm sorry Jackie, besides that, she already has had opportunities that the other contestants only dream of. I don't think it is fair to the other contestants, if she was to win.

I'm very sorry if I offend anyone or anything like that. If you ask any musician they can tell you the same thing.

What an amazing and gifted child. She also seems very sweet and humble. I hope she goes along way. She reminds me of Charlette Church. Maybe another Sarah Brightman.... Good luck to her and the beautiful future she is sure to have... I hope she doesn't become Jaded by the industry, it'll do that to the best of people...

Jackie certainly has a unique and god-given gift. She looks and sings like an angel. The only issue I have is that it may not be appropriate for the Las Vegas venue. She definitely will have many career opportunities coming up. I couldn't handle a whole show evolving around simply just her singing opera though.

It'll be interesting to see and hear wht her voice does as she gets older.

Jackie reminds me both of Sarah Brightman and Charlotte Church. I recognize the talent it takes to achieve this, but I can't say I'm a fan of this style of singing.

According to Wikipedia - the Jackie Evancho page - she already has and will have several opportunities to showcase her talent before wider audiences (other than AGT).

"Evancho has performed onstage with producer David Foster, was an invited performer on the PBS Special 'Celebrate America' with conductor/composer Tim Janis, sang the National Anthem at an event honoring aviation pioneer General Chuck Yeager, as well as performing the anthem to start Pittsburgh Pirates games at PNC Park. At the invitation of Pennsylvania Senator Jane Orie, Jackie has also performed. Jackie also performs at numerous events and charity functions in and around her hometown.

She competed in the 15th U.S.A. World Showcase Talent Competition in early 2009, which took place in Las Vegas and the winner receives $100,000 and the opportunity to create a demo CD.

She is just truly blessed with a voice that's phenomenal", says classical-crossover composer/conductor Tim Janis, who has invited Evancho to perform in his American Christmas Carol show (Dec. 2, 2010) at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She will be the youngest female vocal soloist ever to have performed there."

She also released an album in 2009.

Because Jackie already has had the door opened to her professionally, I would rather have someone else (who is just as talented) win - someone who has not had these kinds of opportunities available to them yet.

I personally I don't do conspiracy theories, however there is something going on. If you listen to the Prelude to a Dream performance, her voice and breathing are happening in real time. Every imperfection could be heard. In Pie Jesu, there is no obvious pitch issue and you can't hear her breathing. They are doing something to her voice live that is causing a tiny delay. I will go out on a limb and say she is being pitch corrected and compressed. Normally there is nothing wrong with that, but it's suspect in a talent competition,if that is the case.

Craig
Craig

Two words for the people who think this is fake: you're idiots.

I'll add that you don't know the first thing about what it takes to genuinely sing this sort of piece.

No doubt about it; this girl's talent is absolutely remarkable...perhaps one in a billion. But also no doubt that she's the real deal. From the breathing to the posture, to the control, to the diction, to the shaping of her mouth, positioning of her tongue, and even some of the (very) minor imperfections in the performance. Nobody can't fake that, let alone a 10-year-old (or even someone twice or thrice her age).

Besides: don't you think that the producers, the stage hands, and the judges would notice if something was being piped in from a pre-recorded source? Really?

I'm guessing you'd label Mozart a fraud, as well.

samson
samson

just amazing,,, looked and sounded like an angel... she will be in final 4 for sure

Lois Benton
Lois Benton

I agree with Matt. Her mouth is moving in ways that suggest her voice is pre-recorded. A couple of weeks ago, Howie wanted to show everyone that she was singing, but did that prove she was not lip synching to her own pre-recorded voice? But this sure sounded beautiful and was her best sounding performance so far.

Adam
Adam

Now Matt get over it. If she was not singing the judges would know. Yes it is an unreal situation that is why they call it AMERICA's GOT TALENT! Like saying Grasso is not a magician. :) they don't want average singers, they want INCREDIBLE and UNIQUE talent she is one of them !

Matt
Matt

Between the 'delay' between her mouth moving and the sound, the non fluctuating volume of her voice, regardless of her distance from the microphone, and her unflinching facial expressions... I find it nearly impossible to believe she is actually singing.

And after all the auto-tune drama recently, I'm finding it even more possible that it isn't for real... I dunno what to believe anymore!

@Ben I fail to understand why someone who may have had some legitimate point Romans would just blow the opportunity by interjecting their politics into it. What in the hell does this have to do with Obama? Put down the koolaid and get on point. No one in this discussion gives a crap about your political persuasion. Not too many people down here are too concerned with what a Canadian has to say about our political system.

Redlight

@Mel Please don't be offended by this; but for a professional singer, you are butchering the English language. That being said, no, she is nothing like Charlotte Church. Charlotte began voice lessons at an early age and even came to the United States to study. Jackie, on the other hand, is self-taught. She did not start receiving voice coaching until after her AGT performances. Even now her coach is not teaching her how to sing, she is merely helping her with her technique so that she does not damage her instrument and ruin her voice as Charlotte Church has done. Jackie has a unique talent shared by very few ever in that she has an ability to produce tonal quality at all levels in basically every aspect with minimal effort. Considering her anatomical limitations which affect her tidal volume (lung capacity) and other considerations, she has an amazing level of ability shared by few trained professionals. Call it mimicking. Call it whatever you'd like. Either way, Jackie is able to produce pitch perfect, acoustically aesthetic vocals in a range that is the envy of many professionals. I find it amusing that the majority of the people who are negative towards Jackie claim to be professionals, highly trained, or some level of expert in the area of operatic vocals. It would seem that there is a group of people who have a certain amount of bitterness and resentment towards a young girl who has do e in two years what they will likely not accomplish in a lifetime. You, and the other "professionals" may be right about Jackie's bad technique, poor this or that, or whatever. The consumers, the ultimate critics every artist tries to please, seem to disagree. As of the time I am writing this Jackie has released no less than 4 cd's, performed for the President twice, the Japanese Royal Family, every major news outlet, had her own PBS Great Performances Concert, and toured the world with David Foster singing to packed houses with full orchestra and choral accompaniment. Also, she was just invited to Moscow to perform. She is moving the world while her critics remain anonymous wannabe stars.

For heaven's sake, who does she mimick? Maria Callas? Beverly Sills? Joan Sutherland? Yeah--right--anybody could do that, huh? Just put on a CD and copy what ya' hear. Yeah, right. I'll go give that a try right now. I'll let ya' know how it goes.

Dan Bradford
Dan Bradford

Mimick??? God, if only I could mimick like that. I have no idea if she has been inspired by others or if she is copying someone else's performance. But to do that she would still have to have the voice; She would still have to have the timing, She would still have to have the diction. Whatever! She puts her performances together as perfectly as any I can imagine. This criticism almost amounts to a compliment.

Scott Darnell

This is a hilarious comment.

I tried mimicking her voice. Do you think I was successful ?
Most professional singers would not be able to mimic this. I would love to hear you mimic this if it's that easy.

I guess that goes for the Olympics, where paid professionals are competing against budding amateurs. I do not find this fair, because it does not give other potential talents a fair chance. Not sure, but if Jackie had not been on AGT, I think it would have taken the world a little longer to truly discover her.

Craig
Craig

People aren't machines.

Every performance is different, even amongst the very experienced.

Pitch issues and breathing are all a standard part of competent vocal training, which she is no doubt getting.

Compare Pavarotti, Domingo, Callas or even Charlotte Church (the late '90's/early '00's wünderkind), and you will hear distinct differences even on the same piece from performance to performance.

This is not evidence of skulduggery. It's evidence of being human, growing and developing.

JayeSD

I have no doubt it's her real voice. Those who think otherwise are silly. Having done recording before, I still believe they may have given her some help on Pie Jesu. I cannot prove it, but it sounds that way. Am I screaming mad about it, if it was true? No. Will she be a star if she wins or not. Yes.

Anyone else feel her performances are very Sarah Brightmanesque?

Yes, I agree that these "critics" who are stupid enough to say that Jackie Evancho's singing was supposedly "fake" -- they wouldn't know music if it were to punch them in the face. To tone-deaf pinheads like them music is a bunch of junior high school kids stitting around having a farting contest. Good classical music is, sadly, a rarity in America's dumb and dumber Beavis and Butthead culture.

What type of credentials do you actually have to make this assessment? There is a definite difference between lip sync and live performances. The most of professional recordings and performances that are "live" are not. There is not a doubt in the world that this is a prodigy. All musicians, even prodigies have things to work on. Any decent musician should know that. I believe that those of us that do not have this type of talent really do not have the right to judge.

She IS singing people! I am a professional vocalist and guitar player who has performed for over 30 years, and although most of the music I prefer is rock, I have a minor in music from U.C. Berkeley and studied voice there under one of Beverly Sills students. I also studied voice on the rock side from a student of Judy Davis who was a vocal coach for Paul McCartney and Barbara Streisand. I understand the mechanics of how the voice works and was born with an unusually good musical ear. When I hear chords, songs, melodies, etc. I am able to reproduce them from memory. Please, I'm not trying to brag but to just validate my credentials. I've watched all her performances and this little girl is for real. Please trust me.
