Jackie Evancho brought down the house once again while performing "Pie Jesu" on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno! She received yet another standing ovation form the packed house, and actor Jmmy Smits said that Jackie sounded "like an angel, like a voice from God"! Way to go Jackie!
Wow! It seems that our emotions are ruuning wild over this gifted child with prodigeous qualities. That's terrific, wonderful, and certainly expected. I, like most of the people who have been totally engaged by her incredible talent, are relieved that she came in second place. Myself, along with so many of my professional freinds, was a child prodigy in music. It is a full time, all consuming job. Not a hobby. Having been blessed with a gift that had everyone talking about my future seemed great at the time. I loved all the attention. I loved what I was doing. Sadly, I did not have a childhood because of it. My parents did not know how to handle my talent and prioritize my time. That is something nobody at the time knew how to do. Tody times have changed. We have had enough examples to learn from. In Jackie Evancho's case, I only wish her the best that life has to offer. I think in the fifty years that have passed since my childhood, a lot of attention has been brought to the forefront about the damage that can be done by not allowing a child to be a child. That said, I am certain that with all the attention that will be coming Jackie's way, which I am the first to say is rightfully deserved, she will be handled properly by her parents. I am certain that they have their daughter's happiness as a top priority and will do the right thing where their daughter's future is concerned. Already it is apparent and obvious that they have kept her well grounded with all the spotlight that has been focused on her even before most of America was introduced to her. You can see immediately that she is still a child with childlike qualities still in place. She appears to still be a normal little girl who enjoys being a girl her age. Her qualities are beyond exceptional. Parents would do well to use her as an example of what their little girls should look like. She is age appropriate on every way. The way she looks, speaks and dresses. You can tell that her parents are tuned in to what is necessary and important for her. Her future is going to be so brilliant. Let's all sit back and learn from this experience and wish her the very best. A gift such as Jackie Evancho comes along so rarely, and I think the joy that exudes from this child is something that is worth talking about in a positive manner rather than making the assumption that she is anything else but that. She is so young. She appears to be so happy. You cannot fake your way into the hearts of America like she has. What a pleasure to be witness to a reamarkably gifted child with remarkably normal childlike qualities. Excellent job Mr. and Mrs. Evancho!!! congratulations should go to you as well for raising what appears to be a wonderful, normal, happy family. America...take note!
I hate to break it to you Rex, but Jackie Evancho hung right in there with the legendary Sarah Brightman last night while they sang a duet of the trademark Sarah Brightman classic "Time To Say Good-Bye", to the point where in some areas, she astonishingly outperformed the magnificent Miss Brightman! I realize she's not yet at Sarah's level, but could easily be there in a few years, with the right type of training. Compare this to an average at best and all but washed up "Pop" singer (or Blues singer or whatever the hell kind of singer Michael Grimm is trying to be) and it's beyond comprehension how the American public can be so ignorant when it comes to deciphering between what constitutes actual talent, and what constitutes voter sympathy (which should never be allowed to come into play in a talent competition, by the way)!
Jackie Evancho is No. 1 to me and she will go far for her future, some of you people in here dont know talent when you see it, let me here you guys sing! yeah right. Michael Grimm will disapear you will not see him again you watch! If Jackie Evancho was the same age as Michael Grimm he would have not won Jackie would have and if the final decision would be up to the Judges you know that they would have picked Jackie. Good luck Jackie you will go far all the best.
Typical American pick...small cute kid who can sing...I already guess she's gonna win since she joined the show...boring...
I just don't understand sometime...a talent act we have never seen before like fighting gravity couldn't win because of their lack of cuteness and because they are not 10 year old kid...
In terms of originality, creativity, something has to do with skill and brain, FG is on par with Blue man group and circ' de sole...
Keep in mind singing is a given talent, if you can sing then you can sing, if not, no matter how hard you train, you can't sing...
if you consider the SINGING TALENT, Evancho is definetily not the best opera singer AT ALL... Cecilia Bartoli, Sarah Brightman, Lucia Popp, Marilyn Horne, and Mirella Freni are some names of hundreds that are far better than her. She won merely because of her face, size, and age....typical american pick...and boring...
To repeat what's already been said many times elsewhere - This is a contest to decide who is the most talented. Yes, they will visit Las Vegas... as one stop in a whirlwind, coast to coast tour that lasts less than 2 months. Their Las Vegas performance will be one act out of ten (or more), as the top ten all go on the road. 'Headlining' tends to imply more than one performance in one location, with the focus on one individual and not on a tour group. . When the tour is over, they will all go their separate ways, pick up their lives again, and wait to be approached by one or more talent agents, which will most assuredly happen. The top 4 are all very gifted. But on the basis of raw talent, whether you like Opera, or Crossover, or whatever, IMHO Jackie wins this one hands down.
This little girl starts my day by listening to all her songs she has performend on AGT.She brings me so much joy and tears everytime I see her.She has so much talent and at 10 years of age-WOW.She is what AGT is all about and SHAME on all of you that think differently. She has my votes and I hope and pray she wins because she DESERVES it.I have never heard anything more beautiful than the voice of JACKIE EVANCHO :)
Hollie Steel is NOT in the same league as Jackie Evancho. Jackie has an infinitely better voice, plus Jackie is much more mature than Hollie. After Hollie's last performance on Britain's Got Talent, it was very evident that she is psychologically very fragile, and very much a little girl who is not ready to entertain anyone.
On the other hand, Jackie appears to love being on the stage and has the confidence of someone who is much older.
Way to go Mick Uhl! I agree with you. If it wasn't for Hollie Steel, I would not have known Jackie Evancho until AGT. I put lots of votes for Jackie on her AGT youtube audition & told my friends at work & on facebook about that also, so that Jackie could get more votes to win an audition on AGT, don't thank me, I'm sure I have nothing to do with it at all & I hate to brag.
I've been watching Hollie Steel on youtubes back in June 2009 & knew nothing about Jackie until I saw her as a recommendation on my youtube page a few weeks later. I saw her singing Con Te Partiro & thought at that time "no one's better then Hollie". Then more videos of Jackie came to my page like in Oct 2009 & I heard that she had a CD & I thought she's almost as good as Hollie, so I bought her CD & she became my 2nd all time favorite singer after Hollie. Now that I saw her on AGT. I thought wow, she's as good as Hollie Steel, since she's really improved. Both Hollie Steel & Jackie Evancho still melt my heart & even bring me to tears when I hear them sing. I think they should do a tour together, even a duet would be good.
What Hollie did back in May 2009 was a long time ago & she doesn't do it anymore she's has matured & improved since then. I give her lots of credit for her 2nd chance. How many 10 year old's & older have the guts to do it again? Not to compere her to 6 year old Connie Talbot, or 4 year old Kaitlyn Maher, since they were too young to even know what it's like to be nervous. Even Jackie admits that she gets very nervous before her performance.
I voted for Jackie and me & my mom felt heart broken when she didn't win. But to me she already wins, since she became world famus, I'm sure she will get signed right away, she probably already got signed if anything.
God bless those little singers. I always pray for them all the time & I thank God for them, since they bring joy to my heart & I'm sure to everyone else s also.
In the 16 months since BGT, Hollie has never had another misstep. It happened once in hundreds of public appearances and certainly is NOT evident that she is psychologically fragile. But, of course, one slight mistake is sufficient for you to accurately assess her character.
Jackie had two years of voice training and many public appearances before she appeared on AGT. Hollie has had no voice training, whatsoever, and sings with her natural voice. That is why she sounds her age and not like a mature soprano. She fell prey to nerves in her first ever live appearance on television and still was able to compose herself to return and finish her performance.
I do love Jackie although, like Sarah Brightman, I fear for her voice with all of this training at such a young age. I voted for her and was heartbroken when she didn't win. I agree that she sings better than Hollie at the moment. But I believe that Hollie is a prodigy, too, and actually has shown more versatility than Jackie if not the same level of technique.
One of the most gifted child with such a great talent, but she is still a child so give her a break, let her enjoy her normal childhood, let her comeback to the limelight when she is mature enough to take the pressure of being a star.
I have seen Jackie before--- in the form of Charlotte Church,Sarah Brightman, and countless other sopranoes singing the same songs, the same way, with the same type of stagings, and the same arrangements. The only difference is that she comes from Pittsburgh, my home town and she is 10 years old. And that being said...I still believe that she needs time to vary her song selections to make her different and more interesting than the rest of the "angelic soprano pack".
the fact that she will be singing with Sarah Brightman tonight in a duet kind of shows the sameness of their styles and voice. different would have been better---maybe a duet with a totally different type of singer with Jackie singing a more upbeat, faster paced song...not the same-old...same-old.
I do not think I could stand a two hour show with Jackie singing her lent-out songs other than on a CD. Unfortunately I think alot of her getting to the finals is Because she is only ten years old with a not a mature voice, but a voice (if we really listen and watch her)that is worked and practiced to the point of being too perfect all the time. Like, as one comment said, a child pageant singer. Her jaw quavers too much and without the mike she probably could not had that big voice sound.
I love Jackie but would hate to see her childhood for the next year be traveling to 25 city stops(they do not say how manymultiple performances in each city). If I had daughter -at ten she would have missed out on her childhood and the fun of singing and maturing naturally. I say give her the million and let her stay home, make CDs, perform in Carnegy Hall and tv appearances and let her be a child.
Just my thoughts about a fellow Pittsburgher that is so dear to all our hearts.
They are not looking for a Vegas act. They are looking for the best talent that will headline the AGT tour which includes a stop in Vegas.
Jackie was amazing, but I didn't like the song choice for a finale.
Jackie Evancho might not win because she is a child, but she has brought to the millions that hear her perform beauty in song and it is so peaceful in a world that so desperately needs peace. We have been touched by a little angel. She will do wonderfully in the future whether she wins or not.
What I love about Jackie is that she brings the art of music. It is melodious and beautiful with out having autotone. It is undiscovered talent in a world that the computer does all the music and it is bginning to be rare that any child or adult can actually play and instrument. Also she dresses like a little girl and performs as a little girl. (she is definately not from Toddlers and Tiara's neighborhood) Which says alot about her parents. I hope she wins!
Yes, the best talent on AGT is Jackie Evanco, and she should win hands down. Now, Las Vegas, no way. The producers of America's Got Talent need to change part of what the winner receives. Give the winner the million, but the other part of the prize should be different, not a Vegas show (this would give performers like Jackie) a chance to perform their talent to an audience that is not there to drink, and get onto the next gaming table! Hope they wake up and change the awards.
I agree wholeheartedly with some of what you are saying dru. Fighting Gravity is strictly an amateur act, sorely lacking in both execution and originality. Also, although he has had some professional work as an opening act for the rock band Heart, Michael Grimm is an average singer at best. Where I disagree with you is concerning the other two finalists (Prince Poppycock and Jackie Evancho). Prince Poppycock is definitely the weakest of the four finalists. His act exhibits lots of pomp and flash, but unfortunately he has very little actual talent to back it up with. Evancho, on the other hand, exhibits a combination of extraordinary talent, amazing stage presence, and unbelievable technical prowess for a performer of any age, let alone a ten year old "child"! Also, the actual grand prize includes $1,000,000 and a contract as the "headliner" of the upcoming America's Got Talent tour, which will perform in 25 cities, Las Vegas being just one of these cities. It indeed would be a major travesty for Jackie to finish as anything less than the America's Got Talent grand prize winner, and then procede to blow every one of the other nine acts (the top 10 acts for 2010 will perform on the tour) completely out of the water at 24 of the 25 performaces (Although I personally feel that the result would be the same in Las Vegas as the other 24 cities. Talent is talent, regardless of venue)!
She has no business in Vegas of all places. She's pretty good-not the best child I've heard singing these songs-and worse she always looks like she's miming. It's simply weird. I get that creepy robotic pageant child vibe.
Fighting Gravity have been boring for weeks and Michael Grimm is just an OK singer. Tonight was Poppycock's first real stumble but his act most says "VEGAS" to me.
Amazing! Yet another absolutely flawless performance by this ten year old operatic prodigy. That's three out of her four performances on America's Got Talent which were flawless (she had a very minor error on the last note of her second performance). This is all the more impressive when considering the fact that every other performance throughout the 2010 America's Got Talent season had at least one error, and normally multiple errors, many of which were absolutely horrendous! If the American public has any knowledge at all relating to the degree of difficulty involved in performing opera at the level which Jackie has performed it in this competition, she should win the $1,000,000 grand prize in the biggest landslide victory in the history of talent competition! Also, thank God for Piers Morgan, who is obviously the only America's Got Talent judge who has even a modicum of actual talent judging ability. Prince Poppycock should have been eliminated weeks ago, which would have relieved Piers from doing what any decent judge of talent would have done in his shoes. My only complaint is that he waited too long to "buzz" the talentless Prince Poppycock, who probably should have been "buzzed" the instant he attempted to sing (or whatever it was that he was attempting to do).
I'm not a singing critic but I will tell you, this little girl touches the soul and there's not a lot of that out there right now. I too could listen to her all night. I admire her talent. What ever happens one way or the other, she has a gift and I'm sure somone watching will see to it that she is in a position to share it. Hope she comes out with a Christmas CD. I'd love t sit by the fire and listen to her bring heaven into the room.
My best to her and her family.
FYI, much of the beauty and emotion of this performance and the previous one is derived from the fact that she is singing about the Holy Mother of God. This song was written to express the profound role of Mary in the redemption of humanity. The previous performance, Pie Jesu, is obviously also very religious. Wake up, people, Jesus is truly Christ and Mary was truly the mother of God.
P.S. I really don't like Piers trying to manipulate the audience, and giving Jackie such a huge production over the others. Thank goodness for Sharon.
Piers is not right Jackie was discovered before this show. He can't take the credit for that - only for putting her on national tv. Yes, she sings like a little angel. But she's only 10! She's a kid and is entitled to a childhood. Does Piers want her to end up like so many messed up kids who grew up in show business? Michael Jackson, hello. The audience didn't even stand up for her. This is exploitation. And is her show a Vegas show? Hardly. Was that "fun" for Piers?
This is exactly what I thought last night when they asked about her sacrifices and she talked about giving up school, friends and family. All I could think of was Michael Jackson. I pray she ends up staying grounded, but so far, she's had anything but a normal childhood. What kid, at 4, says "I want to sing opera"??
This little sweetheart will win the hearts of the world...as far as performing in Vegas....not so sure. I still say she will win.
What a great singer. I would watch her all night long. Her ingenuity is good for my soul and always will. Jackie's songs are marvelous to anyone soul. Let please, stop and reflect on the burden of the world and remember why Jesus the Christ was among us. He was here for a simple purpose to bring us consciousness and left his across as his symble for we take as a remind of our responsibilities and accomplishements.
Here is we claim the most Christian people in the world... by going door to door to prist the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all I see some of the comments about Jackie is negativity.
Can you people who never are able to compromise realize that you sacartic attitude can be disrespectful to others who enjoy beauty and peace. So be it!
Out of respect for all the posters on here I haven't really read a post by anyone who has written anything disrespectful or negative about this little girl. As a matter of fact most people have commented on how talented she is! All they are doing is voicing there opinion about whether she should win this particular show. That is not disrespectful. Compromise is a two way street and being able to hear and accept everyones opinions without taking offence is another way of demonstrating ones christian values.
I am getting tired of all these talent shows pushing the acts they want to win down our throats.I find it insulting that judges continue to tell us who we are going to vote for. It seems like this girl has been one of the last two performers on every show for the last three weeks which is a better spot going into voting. I respect Sharon Osbourne for not coronating anyone as the winner and pointing it out that it is up to the public. This little girl is very talented and is going to have a career no matter what. She has already worked with David Foster and is booked at Carnegie Hall later this year. Is she my favorite? No . Is she any of my adult childrens favorite? No. Would any of us pay to see a performance of hers? No. Each of the performers from tonight are talented in their own way. I think Grimm is amazing. My daughter thinks Poppycock's originality is amazing. My sons like Fighting Gravity. You can't compare them to each other as they all come from different backgrounds. Evancho is a vocally trained performer, Fighting Gravity a bunch of college students who got together and formed an act, Michael Grimm is a musician etc. and who knows where Poppycock came from. The point is that you should vote for who you like and would pay to see not who you are told to because they are adorable or a child prodigy etc. Talent is subjective like art in itself.
She deserves to win. I like Michael Grimm and Fighting Gravity too but lets face it if we are picking one act that would be respected on an International level it's Jackie.
I don't necessarily love the over pimping they have done as she is the one I see on the NBC preview commercials each week for this show but she is a rare find whether I really like this kind of music or not.
I thinks all producers are judges here not three acting judges who are just front faces of the NBC's show...:))....ye!...sure!....Jackie Evancho is going to win for sure with all the agreements of producers...and talent of course...
I thinks it's not fair in this competition when her song is picked by all the producers while the others' songs weren't. is all the producers producing a singers for showbiz by creating her reputation through America's got talent?....
While yes, she is a fantastic singer and beautiful to listen to, anyone who says no one is in her league and that no one can sing like her is simply uncultured and uneducated. Sorry folks, but pop up Charlotte Church or Haley Westenra on youtube and you'll see there are plenty of young girls with voices of angels. Jackie's one of them and a step above the rest of us. But that is all she is.
What an Angel is right! This little one should head straight to Juilliard. She is going to be a World Star and her life and her family's life is never going to be the same after this is over.
That saying, I can't see her as a Vegas star, her talent goes way beyond Vegas. I wish her the best.
My vote goes to Michael Grimm for the winner of America's Got Talent.
of course she should win, it's all about the talent... not the venue, not the record deal, not the genre.... etc etc etc...
she is amazing and deserves to win...period!
r u people kidding me? The kid wins hands down. Poppycock blew it ( literally ) & Gravity made a huge mistake. Micheal Grimm will be a great cabaret singer at best.
Princess Jackie will win it all.
Well let's say I would rather listen to her than the Bieber Boy for an hour! But I agree I think whether she wins here or not she will be amazing with a good record company and probably be more successful than just the Vegas show. She is adorable though
she did alright, but it was nothing compared to her last performance, i think she is more broadway, same thing with prince poppycock, michael grimm needs a record deal, not a big vegas show, i think fighting gravity should win, they are a perfect vegas act
I just don't see her as a Vegas act...she doesn't NEED the win or the money, because she will be successful. And I don't think their are many opera-fans to go and visit her....I just....idk, I don't think she should win.
Why does everybody here say not a Vegas show. The winner does not win anything at all having to do with a Vegas show. They go on a national tour and the last stop is caesars palace and they win a million dollars. They stopped the Vegas show prize after last year. Ricky straighten these people out will ya
