Is Brock Lesnar vs. Kevin Owens In the Plans For Wrestlemania 32?
Ever since returning to WWE in 2012, Brock Lesnar has spent the better part of his tenure wrestling fellow part-timers like The Undertaker, established names like HHH and John Cena, or guys he fought way the hell back in 2002, like The Big Show. In short, one of the prevailing claims for fans has been that Brock hasn’t faced any real up-and-comers. Of course, WWE has sought to change that this year, giving him high profile matches against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, respectively. And if the latest rumor is true, the trend could continue in 2016.
According to former WWE writer Court Bauer, who still has connections within the company, there are talks underway to possibly have Brock Lesnar face Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania 32. Bauer made the statement on a recent episode of the MLW Podcast, and the rumor have taken on a life of its own. To his credit, Bauer has correctly reported on previous WWE plans, such as the plans to begin a Charlotte heel turn this Monday on Raw. However, this is probably the biggest rumor he’s yet reported on. If this comes to pass, it would be an amazing use of Lesnar’s potential, in the sense that a match with The Beast Incarnate could be a huge boon to Owens, the current Intercontinental Champion.
For his part, Owens has been vocal about wanting to face Lesnar at Wrestlemania, as noted in the most recent Like Father, Like Son podcast:
“I’ve answered this question a couple of times and my answer is always Brock Lesnar, because I’d just love to be in the ring with him and see what it’s like. There’s nobody quite like Brock Lesnar, as far as pure strength and viciousness and everything. I’d love to see if I could hang with him and see how much I could hurt him. I’d love to get in the ring with The Undertaker one day, too. I feel like that’s a long shot, I guess, because he wrestles on a limited basis and when he does, it’s always a huge deal. But, hopefully I can position myself in the next year or so to be seen as a viable opponent for the Undertaker, because it would be a thrill to be in the ring with him at WrestleMania or anywhere. It can be on a Raw or a live event, I don’t really care. I’d just love to be in the ring with him. I feel like that would be an experience I’d never forget.”
Personally, I’d love to see the match. I think it’s far past time that someone on the rise actually gets the better of Brock. Someone has to, and it’d make sense for it to be a bruiser like Owens, provided they stop booking him like a wishy-washy heel who bails on half his matches. The promo battles with Paul Heyman alone would be worth doing the angle, without even getting into how hard-hitting the match would likely be. Just being involved with Lesnar could help propel Owens to the next level as a potential main heel in WWE, and at a time when they need all the legitimate main event heels they can get.
What do you think of the match? Should Brock Lesnar and Kevin Owens face off at Wrestlemania 32? If not, who should each man face? Sound off in the comments!
