Ian McKellen has prostate cancer, fighting it for six or seven years

Ian McKellen revealed to the The Mirror yesterday that he’s been battling prostate cancer for “six or seven years”. It is not a threat to his life and has been “contained”.

Sir Ian McKellen revealed that he has been battling prostate cancer for six or seven years, but the disease is “contained” and not a threat to his life.

“You do gulp when you hear the news,” the 73-year-old told Britain’s The Mirror. “It’s like when you go for an HIV test, you go ‘Arghhh is this the end of the road?’

“They come and say you have cancer of the prostate and then they say you can have it zapped, you can have it snipped but you are not a candidate for that. You are ‘waitful watching,’” he said.

Doctors told him surgery wouldn’t be necessary. Regular check-ups would make sure that the typically slow-growing disease did not pass.
