Hope Solo Stands by Allegations Against Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hope Solo defended her allegations that Maksim Chmerkovskiy slapped her repeatedly during rehearsals for the reality competition show Dancing with the Stars in an ESPN interview,

When questioned why Solo didn’t tell anyone about the dance pro’s alleged physical abuse of her before she released her tell-all memoir, Solo claims that until she started writing the book, she didn’t have the self confidence to tell her story to the world. She also states that “everyone knows I speak the truth.”

Solo, who has been the goal keeper for the gold medal winning U.S. Women’s Soccer team, has made more headlines for her controversial statements, both before and during the Olympic games than for her play on the field. I had hoped that on the back of her outstanding performance in the Olympic final, that maybe she’d settle for whatever fame being a soccer player would bring her, but it seems Solo is determined to keep running her mouth.

While I can certainly buy that Maks isn’t the nicest guy in the world to work with, I just don’t see Solo as having any credibility and her explanation for waiting until her memoir to make these accusations just doesn’t ring true. Even if it was true, how selfish would it be to withhold this information, while Maks is being paired up with other potential “victims?”

She is a great athlete. She was a terrible dancer. Training (in athletics and musical disciplines) is done quite differently in the 'former eastern bloc' nations. He's from the Ukraine...a different set of rules (not saying his alleged rough handling was right or to support Maks...and yes, Howard...I too, would like to have sex with him).

She is not "running her mouth". She wrote a book, a memoir. When writing a book and mentioning real life people's actions, often your facts have to be verified or vetted by lawyers to avoid lawsuits.

What evidence have you presented that would legitimately question her credibility? Maybe you're the one who's running the mouth.

@IdleTime So everything ever written in a tell-all book about a real life person is true? Good to know. My *opinion* is based on a pattern of what I perceive to be attention seeking behavior and the timing and method of delivery of her accusations.

Wow, this post is really kind of difficult to take. Sure, you wanna have sex with Maks, but does that mean you have to deride a truly noteworthy athlete?

As for her being a "noteworthy athlete." Sure she's a good soccer player, that has nothing to do with credibility.

@Joystickenvy I was well aware of who wrote it. And sorry if you didn't like the one assumption I made, but that pales in comparison the those you made. I find this piece to be fraught with opinion and little fact, and a bit insulting. This reads more like Fox News than l care for.

@hrstump I don't think he has made an official statement yet. So more accurately, I don't find HOPE SOLO to be believable.

@hrstump It's not a matter of whether I like your assumption, I don't really care one way or the other about it, I just wasn't sure why you would assume I wanted to sleep with Maks, unless you thought I was Rickey, since he has expressed actual interest in the past.

Of course the piece is "fraught with opinion." It's an opinion piece. I'm not pretending to be a reporter like the folks over at Fox news.

Seriously? Could you take a more condescending attitude? While she has made headlines for her statements off the field, to act as if Solo's enduring fame is not because she is the best goalkeeper the women's game has ever seen is ludicrous. This entire post reads extremely catty.

@TylerDSEdwards Except most people in the U.S. don't follow soccer and they wouldn't know who she is at all if it weren't for DWTS and her headline making comments....

@hrstump As did I. I have watched DWTS, but I don't really care for it. I have the utmost respect for Hope as an athlete. Trust me, I would much rather be on her Team than Maks. I, personally, just do not find her to be credible in this instance.

Heavily disagree. You don't have to follow a sport to know the major athletes in it. The fact of the matter is, if i said names like Mia Hamm, Landon Donovan and Abby Wambach a lot of people would know them as US soccer players for their skills on the field. Hope Solo is in that category. Also, even with Solo's past comments taken into consideration, her credibility has never been questioned. She makes comments that are seen as inopportune or inappropriate, but not false. Finally, I think it's more of the tone you wrote this in than anything. No one is saying you have to take Solo's side here or not be critical of her, but doing so in such a combative way really brings down the whole post.

I have no idea what happen behind close doors but I do remember the two times they preformed the quickstep and felt alil awkward watching it because it seems he was manhandling her across the floor. Also if it is not true he could sue her for deformation of character. Maks is a brand and allegations like that can definitely hurt his brand. If he doesn't take legal action I will be more inclIne to believe her

@Samiamtv I totally agree that Maks is a jerk and he did treat her roughly, however I still have a hard time buying her claims based on her past attention seeking behavior and the timing of it. If it took this book writing self revelation to give her the courage to speak up about it, why wait until the book actually was published and not say "hey abc, you should fire this bitch slapping jackass NOW."

@Joystickenvy Oh, let me take a stab here....because she saved the cacky details for book release publicity? Because her publisher forbade her to talk about it pre-publication under the terms of her book contract? And you are right here Joystick...if the experience was all so troubling and traumatic for her I'd think it would not have been saved for her tell-all. That's my sense.

FTR, I abhor batterers,..so don't come at me haters. :)
