Here’s What Netflix Is Adding and Removing In July 2015

Summer is in full swing, which means there are a lot of people out there with more time on their hands for binge viewership. On the one hand, Netflix has you covered with some enticing new selections. On the other hand, they’re also narrowing their library by ditching some old favorites.

Granted, I’m not sure how many people are going to be upset about the loss of Big Fish, Fried Green Tomatoes or Four Wedding and a Funeral, but those are seriously some great movies. But even ignoring that, some of these removals don’t make much sense. For instance, with a new Terminator movie coming out at the start of July, why would you want to get rid of Terminator 2: Judgement Day? You’d think viewership for that movie would rise due to interest in the new movie, but I suppose Netflix feels differently. Similarly, if you’re Netflix, and you have a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon coming in August, why would you delete Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon from your lineup? Maybe there’s a logic to their process that I’m not seeing, but I don’t get some of these removals. (On a more personal note, I’m irritated by the removal of Beauty and the Beast, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Louis C.K.: Hilarious, all titles I’ve repeatedly come back to over the past couple months)

That said, there are some interesting additions coming, namely, the season premiere of Bojack Horseman (which is one of the more underrated comedies on TV right now) and the series premiere of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. Also, I’m no big Glee fan, but the arrival of its final season will offer me an opportunity to satisfy my curiosity about how it all wrapped up. In addition, there are new seasons of White Collar, Hell On Wheels, and even the Netflix premiere of the latest Bradley Cooper-Jennifer Lawrence movie, Serena.

Anyway, I imagine the list of arrivals and departures will be divisive for some. But it wouldn’t be Netflix if it wasn’t.

Beauty and the Beast leaving Netflix

UPDATE: Well, now I feel silly. Although the release said “2012 series,” it’s actually the 80s Beauty and the Beast series getting the boot. Apologies for the misunderstanding. I’m basically going to be living this one down for a while. That said, I’m keeping the image above anyway, because Jay Ryan and Kristin Kreuk are super pretty.
