HitFix reports that the upcoming season premiere of TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo will be a “Watch ‘n Sniff” event.
In a sign that TLC has no plans on changing the “L” to stand for something other than “Learning,” viewers will now be able to take in “the diverse and fragrant smells found in rural McIntyre, GA,” via promotional scratch ‘n sniff cards. Nearly ten million “Watch ‘n Sniff” cards, featuring six questionable aromas, will be distributed nationwide via the 7/15/13 issue of People Magazine (hitting newsstands on July 5), as well as the Us Weekly that hits newsstands on Friday, July 12. In addition, TLC’s partnership with Time Warner Cable means you can also pick up your “Watch ‘n Sniff” cards at select Time Warner Cable retail stores. Lastly, if all else fails, keep an eye out for street teams in major markets, as the cards will be passed out to bystanders by street team members who will presumably be wondering how it ever came to this.
Of course, no tacky promotional tactic would be complete without providing viewers a chance to win money. To this end, fans can hit up TLC.com/HoneyBooBoo for a “virtual watch ‘n sniff experience,” in which viewers can mix and match the smells featured in the show to win $5,000, although I’m not entirely sure how one thing leads to the other.
The season premiere of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo airs Wednesday, July 17 at 9 p.m. on TLC.
