Harry Connick, Jr. approached to become American Idol judge
Via: E! News
Finally, some judge-related news I can get behind.
Following a successful stint as a mentor to Season 12′s Top 4 girls, Harry Connick, Jr. has confirmed that he’s been approached by American Idol producers about potentially being a judge for the show’s 13th season. “It’s a fun show. It’s been talked about before, who knows what’ll happen in the future,” the crooner told E! News. “What I’ve done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I’ve had a great time.”
“You know, they kinda wanted to know if I would be interested in it,” Connick, Jr. continued, in an interview backstage at last night’s results show. “I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic,” he said, concerning the necessities of judging on a televised singing competition. “I think there’s no reason to be mean, but it is called being a ‘judge.’ You have to judge. That’s what you do.”
The New Orleans native also confirmed that this isn’t the first time he’s been asked, citing similar discussions following his stint as a mentor in season 9. “The last time I was here, I was so flattered that they were kind of talking about it,” he said. “And it didn’t work out. There were a lot of things going on on their side and a lot of things going on on my side with just stuff. It’s hard to make a commitment like that.”
Connick, Jr., whose first full album of original material releases June 11, joked with E! News about what it would take to get him to sign on the dotted line: “$600 million!” the singer cracked. He then took a more serious approach to the question, stating, “I’m going on tour this year so, like, when would I do it? It’s that kind of thing.”
However, Connick, Jr., who is a longtime fan of the singing competition series, admits that it would be a blast: “I was in the audience when Kelly Clarkson won [season one]. Justin Guarini waved at me! It’d be fun.”
So what do you think? Would you like to see Harry Connick, Jr. as an Idol judge? If not, who would you want on the panel? Hit up the comments and let us know!

Got Something to Add?
Harry Connick "No Runs" Jr. is funny and entertaining and perhaps a good mentor (though I'm not sure how helpful he was this past week to the contestants). He's also not relevant. He sings standards, but the show has been accused of being too old-fashioned and not modern. He might be popular with people who watch AI religiously. But to woo back unfaithful audience, the name Harry Connick Jr. wouldn't excite anyone.
I would pick Michael Buble' instead of him. He's younger, very hot at the moment, and dabbles and has success on Hot 100.
Please drop Randy and get Harry. Keep Keith. Bring in Shania Twain. And for the fourth female, bring in a former Idol alumnus - Kelly Clarkson would be great. Even someone like Miley Cyrus (even though i don't personally like her much) might be an interesting female judge as she would bring a younger demo in, plus she has been in the industry for a long time, plus she has a personality as well.
I don't think Kelly wants to do idol. She did the Duet's thing because she got to mentor and that's why I think she did it. I don't know if they can afford all the big name celebs next season. lols Three judges work better on idol so that's all they really need. Yes I agree with getting rid of Randy. :)
John Legend would be great too. John, Harry and Shania or Queen Latifah. Oh heck any female but ONE is enough.
@KevinB Eh no... I don't want Miley on Idol. But she's my first choice to be on The Voice Kids Edition.
