Grammy Awards 2013 – Live Blog and Video
MusicJoin us in the live blog for the 55th Grammy Awards. We’ll be treated to performances from the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Miguel & more, while artists like Frank Ocean and Carly Rae Jepsen go for top honors!
Don’t agree with who won? Loved that performance? Sound off here:

[8:00] We’re here!!!! Just random, but why does LL Cool J always have to host? It seems to be a tradition but it’s a tad old now. Lots of collaborative performances. Rihanna, Bruno Mars & Sting, Maroon 5 & Rihanna, and more. Wow and LL is performing too. Uhhh…
[8:01] Taylor Swift is up first with her Record of the Year-nominated “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” with a red & white Alice in Wonderland-type theme. I will give Taylor Swift one thing. She will not dare have a boring performance without loads of scenery. She will give it to you and give it to you well! She’s also not afraid to put her real vocals on display. Hate her or love her, go Taylor!
[8:04] Did she just lowkey take a shot at Harry Styles!? She changed the lyrics and said “I’m too busy opening the grammys, we will never get back together, like ever.” Maybe not, but is One Direction even on the billing? Is she comparing her success to theirs!? Again, go Taylor.
[8:05] Honestly, I don’t want to go in on him again, but they might as well have the presenters segway that having LL Cool J. LOL. Sorry….wait never mind. Apparently he’s only hosted like a year ago. Oops. my apologies.
[8:07] JT! BEYONCE! RIHANNA! CARRIE! ADELE! Many more being shouted out from coming from their different places. Beyonce and Rihanna look amazing.
[8:10] After that boooring speech we now have Ed Sheeran & Elton John. Ed Sheeran just recently blew up in the States so I guess this is coming full circle! I might be speaking over myself again, but I think Elton gets the most awards show treatment than any old school celeb. That was really good and I’m not even the folky person. Good job! I just saw this on twitter but Ed does look like Prince Harry
[8:14] All my X Factor heads, they are airing part of Tate’s video!!!!!! It was like 25 seconds though. I guess it was 30, maybe.
[8:18] First award presented by Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez! J.Lo is showing allllll the leg. Haha they would show Bey’s reaction, which was good anyway. The-Dream is seated behind Bey. Jennifer Lopez never ages. Never. She doesn’t. The first award is “Best Solo Performance” nominees – Adele – ”Set Fire to the Rain”, Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger”, Call Me Maybe – “Carly Rae Jepsen”, Katy Perry – “Wide Awake”, Rihanna – “Where Have You Been.” Adele wins with “Set Fire to the Rain.” Wow, swept last year and wins the first award tonight. Rihanna hugs her. Go Adele! LOL she says J.Lo is her good luck charm. She thanks all of the females nominated and says they work so hard!
[8:22] – Neil Patrick Harris introduces fun.! They are up for a lot tonight as well. Fun is like a male version of Florence & the Machine to me. Janelle Monae gives them a standing O! They could have done more with the performance though.
[8:32] John Mayer and Bonnie introduce Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert doing a country tribute! Do Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood cancel each other out in some instances? Hmmmm. Miranda is working with a little bit of chops too. I always get Dierks Bentley and Gnarls Barkley confused.
[8:39] A clip is shown of LL performing on Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark! LL has aged well too. LL introduces Miguel featuring Wiz Khalifa.
[8:40] I don’t know why Miguel pulled that stunt the other day. He has a great voice and one of the few singers who sound EXACTLY like they do on their recording. They perform a remix to Miguel’s R&B smash “Adorn.” Just leeeeeet my love adorn you. This song is just SO smooth. Wiz Kfalifa was added solely so this performance could appeal to more. Miguel is very artistic, he could have orchestated a “performance” performance. They showed us a show of Chrihanna at the end! The new Bobby & Whitney.
[8:41] Wiz and Miguel then announce Best County Solo: Home – Dierks Bently, Eric Church – Springstreen, Cost of Livin- Ronnie Dunn, Wanted – Hunter Hayes, Over- Blake Shelton, Blown Away- Carrie Underwood. I hope Carrie wins! AND SHE DOES! GO CARRIE! Carrie thanked the Good Lord in her speech. Amen! Preach, Carrie! She ends by saying Glory to God! “They ask me what I do and who I do it for..” *2 chainz voice* Sorry. I had to get ratchet for a second.
[8:49] LL keeps emphasizing that the Grammys is the most tweeted about event, and was last year. I don’t believe it but maybe. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw present now Song of the Year. Nominees: Ed Sheeran – The A Team, Miguel – Adorn, Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe, – Kelly Clarkson – Stronger, Fun & Janelle Monae – We Are Young. And the winner is…….We Are Young! Figured it! I was just hoping Faith was about to say “We…Adorn you!” Wait…..why isn’t Janelle Monae up there with them and sitting in the audience!?
[8:53] Johnny Depp (what?) introduces the “sublime” Mumford & Sons. They have a heavy craze going through the US right now too. It seems like they are in it for the long haul too. Folksy pop like this is rather calming though.
[9:03] Ellen and none other than BEYONCE are up to present. Beyonce has already one an R&B Grammy for “Love on Top.” Bey looks amazing! She should have promoted her new music either here or the Super Bowl smh. Wow. Beyonce is nervous. Anxiety gets the best of us, Go Bey!!!! They introduce Justin Timberlake with “Suit and Tie.” But Jay-Z is in his seat so I assume he will not rap his portion.
[9:05] Similar to Bruno Mars before at the (VMAs if I’m not mistaken), the screen turns greyscale for his performance. I like this! JT sounds good and I like the old school feel. But I have to bring up, is this “comeback” worthy? Ehhhh…. Let me take that back, the old school vibe takes away from what the performance could be. WAIT! JT tells Jay-Z to get out his seat! He joins him on stage to rap his verse!! Yes. I like this.
[9:07] JT is now about to perform a brand new song as the color goes back to normal. I take back what I said before, these performances fit the vibe for this upcoming album, I think. By the way, this new song rides! He is kiiiiling the falsetto! That was great. Justin did that. Of course this era isn’t the ordinary, but it is shaping up good and will be great.
[9:11] Kelly Rowland and Nas are up to present next. KELLY’s OUTFIT!! They are presenting the new nominees for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Nominees: Fortune – Chris Brown, Kaleidoscope Dream – Miguel, Channel Orange – Frank Ocean. It goes to Frank Ocean!!! Congratulations Frank! He truly deserves this. Wow. What a great moment! Chris Brown clapped too! LOL. He thanks his mother and managers! His mom is crying!
[9:20] Best Rock Performance – Alabama Shakes – Hold On, Lonley Boys – Black Keys, Charlie Brown, Coldplay, I Will Wait – Mumford & Sons, We Take Care of Our Own – Bruce Springsteen. Black Keys win!
[9:22] Alicia Keys and Maroon 5 up to perform Daylight & Girl on Fire! Adam Levine! Crazy how he sings nothing like his talking voice…like at all. It segways into Girl on Fire with Adam singing with Alicia while she’s playing the drums!
[9:27] Kaley Cuoco and Keith Urban announce Pop Vocal Album. Stronger – Kelly Clarkson, Ceremonials – Florence & The Machine, Some Nights – Fun., Overexposed – Maroon 5, The Truth About Love – Pink. IT GOES TO KELLY CLARKSON!!!! SECOND IDOL TO WIN A BIG CATEGORY TONIGHT! That was a bit of a surprise at first, but now looking it seems correct! She gives big hugs to Beyonce, Miranda & Blake! She’s nervous and didn’t know she was going to win! She loves Pink and had covered fun. all summer! She says she doesn’t know who Miguel is but they need to sing together and says thats the sexiest thing she’s ever seen! LOL! Go Kelly!
