Goldberg Injured Just Days From WWE Survivor Series 2016

Bill Goldberg is facing Brock Lesnar at WWE Survivor Series 2016 this Sunday, and while the match is still on, it seems that one of the two performers will be heading into the match with an injury.

Goldberg confirmed to NBC Sports that he suffered an injury during the brawl that ended Monday Night Raw this week, as the former WCW champion fought off several “security guards” in order to clear the ring for a Lesnar confrontation. Needless to say, Goldberg isn’t exactly feeling great.

“My body feels horrible. I tweaked my shoulder last night (on Raw),” Goldberg said. “But that doesn’t mean in five days that I’m not going to come out kicking ass and taking names like I always do.”

So while Goldberg may not be feeling 100 percent, he’s still going to go through with the match. Of course, even if pro wrestling wasn’t already an injury-prone business, I’d still expect Goldberg to end up getting hurt, if for no other reason than because it’s been twelve years since he’s done this. So there’s bound to be ring rust. It also doesn’t help that WWE fast-tracked this match after signing the deal for Goldberg vs. Lesnar in October. Goldberg really needed at least until the Royal Rumble to prepare and get back in ring shape. WWE could have even sent a guy like Curtis Axel or Curt Hawkins to help him get ring-ready again like they have for guys like The Undertaker, The Rock and even Lesnar.

But WWE wanted to capitalize on the hype for the WWE 2K17 video game, since Goldberg was the focal point of the promotion for the game. The buzz around Goldberg, such that it could help sales of the video game, likely would have been gone by the time the Royal Rumble rolled around. So, in a way, I can understand why WWE fast-tracked the match. On the other hand, it really would have benefited Goldberg to have a bit more time to prepare, particularly for a match that’s likely to be as physical as this Lesnar match probably will be.

Here’s hoping Goldberg makes it out of this match in one piece. I would imagine he wants to prove something to his family, and really put on a show. And adrenaline might help him push out the pain just long enough to do that. Hopefully, there won’t be any lasting damage from all those suplexes you know he’s going to end up taking. I guess we’ll find out this Sunday.

But what do you think about Lesnar vs. Goldberg? What should the finish be? Who should go over? What kind of reaction will both men get? Sound off in the comments!
