Gina Carano Joins ‘Deadpool’ Movie as X-Men Character
MMA fighter Gina Carano isn’t planning on returning to the octagon any time soon, as she has just signed on to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming Deadpool movie from 20th Century Fox.
Carano will play Angel Dust, an X-Men character who was once part of an underground group of mutants known as The Morlocks. However, Angel Dust will not be the only X-Men character joining the fray, as Colossus is also expected to be in the film.
Tim Miller will direct the movie, which is expected to begin shooting in Vancouver in March. Apart from Reynolds and Carano, TJ Miller is also a part of the cast, although his role has yet to be revealed beyond the notion that, as usual, he will be playing the comedic relief.
Deadpool centers on Wade Wilson, an assassin afflicted with cancer who agrees to an experimental procedure with the hopes that it will cure his condition. However, it ends up horribly scarring him, forcing him to wear a mask to cover his horrific appearance — although he does get superpowers as a trade-off. So…small victories?
Naturally, this isn’t Carano’s first big action film, as she’s starred in the lead role of Steve Soderbergh’s Haywire in 2011, and Fast & Furious 6 in 2013.
Deadpool will hit theaters this time next year, on February 12, 2016.
