‘Game of Thrones’ Is Most Pirated TV Show For Fourth Straight Year

For the fourth year in a row, Game of Thrones is the most pirated show on television.

The annual list from TorrentFreak revealed that the HBO fantasy epic is once again the most torrented show on the internet, as the season premiere was downloaded roughly 13 million times, while the season finale was downloaded 10 million times. So a LOT of people watched Cersei’s Walk of Shame, to say the least. In second was cable’s most popular show, The Walking Dead, although its downloads were less than half of what Game of Thrones totaled, as the AMC series averaged around 6.9 million for the year. Greg Berlanti’s superhero shows made a strong showing on the list, as Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl all cracked the Top 10, while NBC remained in the hunt with The Blacklist.

Strangely, it’s a different story with movies, as the top film of the year isn’t from this year at all. Turns out, 2015’s most pirated film is 2014’s Interstellar, outranking this year’s record-breaking hits such as Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Jurassic World. However, you could argue that because these were event movies that many people went out of their way to see in the theater, the piracy numbers would be down in comparison to something like Interstellar, which was popular, but wasn’t exactly the type of movie people were camping out at the theater to see.
