‘Frozen’ Songwriters Penning a Song for Neil Patrick Harris at the Oscars

Academy Award winners Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are returning to the Oscars, not as nominated songwriters, but as…well, just songwriters.

Of course, saying “just songwriters” is a bit reductive, considering they not only won Best Original Song last year for “Let It Go,” their music also sparked an international phenomenon, and one of the most successful film soundtracks of all-time. So it makes sense they’d be asked to return to help provide a memorable song-and-dance number for Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris, who will take the stage for the first time as Oscar host.

Harris took to his Twitter to coyly announce the news, but remaining vague about the title of the song:

Of course, we now know all the details about the song thanks to an official press release:

The song will be titled “Moving Pictures,” and is described as “an original multimedia, musical sequence.”

“We love the Oscars and have always been huge Neil Patrick Harris fans, so when he asked us to write him a song for this year’s show we said, ‘Yes!’ before he could finish the sentence—it’s possible he may have been asking us for something else,” the duo said in a statement. “We are having so much fun collaborating, and have even enjoyed weaving our experience as Oscar nominees into the song.”

You know, say what you will about how played out the Frozen soundtrack might be at this point, but the Lopezes are very talented songwriters, and should work well with the Renaissance Man stylings of Harris. We here can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
