Fox Up Front – Highlights & Announcements – Glee, American Idol & The X-Factor

  • by Jason
  • May 14, 2012 at 9:58 am
Reality TV · American Idol · The X Factor

This morning, May 14, 2012, Peter Rice, Entertainment ChairmanFox Nets, and Kevin Reilly, Entertainment President Fox Broadcast, participated in a conference call. As part of Fox Up Front, they answered questions regarding next season’s hit shows, cancellations and new shows. Glee has added several stars to the cast for season four — including Sara Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson (for a 6-episode arc). Also, the show will follow the graduates to New York City; it will be a show within a show.

This afternoon, the event will continue. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are, reportedly, in New York City to make a public announcement about their involvement with The X-Factor. So far, I’ve compiled the highlights and announcements regarding Glee, American Idol and X-Factor. I’ve also included some tweets.

Stay tuned to the blog this afternoon for updates to this post.

Summary of Conference Call

  • Both Idol and X-Factor will see tweaks to their format
  • Idol will see a creative reinvigoration next season
  • Execs hope to announce the judging panel this afternoon, Lovato and Spears are both in NYC
  • Kevin Reilly: “Our challenge for next year is to put some fresh energy in” American Idol after “we probably didn’t do enough this year.”
  • Glee will follow the graduates to NYC; it will be a “show within a show”
  • Kate Hudson has signed on for a 6-episode arc for Glee
  • Sarah Jessica Parker has signed on for Glee
  • Glee  moves to Thursdays following The X-Factor

Xfactor will have a semi-Superbowl effect for first few episdoes-then watch as its ratings sink like the Titanic (there only so much Simon can hide what is a seriously flawed format)!

Yeah !! creative invigoration  to Idol. So Happy.. Hope they Fix some of the things like boring and dated auditions, introduce better themes, clear up more music for the Idol's to sing and get rid of these ass-licking Judges. So excited!

@Mikhail XO I honestly think the talent level is ok. Rickey.org is the only place on the Internet where I find a bunch of people who dont think this season's talent is some of the best Idol has ever had.

Although I do know it's gonna be harder to find talent now with the influx of singing shows. Also I get the feeling that it will be harder for winners of these shows to break in to the market due to the large number of shows and the already poor perception of singing shows as a means to break into the music industry.

I also agree that they need to show more fairness in the judging process. Male Species always seem to be more favored , and I wont be surprised if P2 or Joshua win. Even when they are  off color they still gets the highest level of praise. At least even , Jessica receives criticism from time to time, but Joshua has been pimped like he's the next coming of Christ.

And Randy definitely needs to go. I cant watch another season of him any more. I just cant !

@Lombe @Mikhail XO Jessica and Joshua are the most pimped! With Joshua his vocals and style are really great so I can see where judges can't criticize too much. But Jessica can put on an average show and receive no real honest feedback. As Mik mentions the obnoxious far out Randy rant was the biggest PIMP shout this season to date! I call bullshit on you for always making stuff up and arguing against fact. You're out of your league.

@Mikhail XO uhmm! On the first point, we just have to agree to disagree. because I scour the web for Idol related articles and with the innumerable number of  sites that I visit, the views among the writers and the fans are the similar. That Idol season's 11 Talent would easily place in the Top 3 Idol seasons of all time.

On the second point, you're probably correct when you say the voting demographic has a lot to do with the plethora of of unsuccessful male winners. But you have to admit that Judge pimping does play a role. One Idol writer who always spots this is Michael Slezak of TV line. I dont know if you watch his weekly Idology, but you should take 10 minutes of your time to have a look at it.

You say Jessica receives no realistic criticism from the "jesters"<-(lol at that). I call bullshit.

Of all the 3 remaining, Jessica has received the most amounts of criticism from these Judges. they've called her out for tackling songs that her too old for her, Jennifer gave her a piece of constructive criticism the week after she got saved and told her she doesn't connect with her songs and she should learn to connect better. During "bohemian rhapsody" , Jennifer asked her to move more, and shake her hair a lot  more. Randy called out her performance of ''Proud Mary"

Joshua on the other hand has never received an iota of criticism from the"jesters" . if you can name one moment when the Judges gave Joshua even one sentence of constructive criticism, then I'll concede and say that you're right!

P2 meanwhile gave an absolute farce of a performance on "time of the season" and what did the judges do?? Jeez all over themselves with senseless praise.

At least I am able to point out all the moments the Judges have given Jessica some form of criticism. With the other two, trying to find moments when the Judges criticized them this season is like trying to find a needle in a haystack .I dare you to try.! Whether we like it or not, the Judges reactions and tone of comments always influences the voting bloc to vote a certain way.
