FOX Considering ‘Empire’ Concert Tour

Empire is a massive success for FOX, earning unprecedented ratings growth for a seventh consecutive week. So it’s no surprise that the network wants to maximize the brand. But could this mean a live show?

FOX is reportedly considering an Empire concert tour, similar to the Glee concert tours of old.

“We are thinking about what the future is of the brand,” said FOX Television co-chair/co-CEO Dana Walden. “What we learned on Glee and what we tried to do on Glee is be very cognizant that the music business is the tail of this dog—the show is the thing. But we are certainly looking down the line. There’s no reason not to think of having all sorts of ancillary opportunities with this show. We’re certainly thinking about idea of doing a live concert series.”

Empire isn’t that far removed from Glee in terms of the model FOX is adopting with the show, as iTunes is a key component of its revenue, with singles being added every week. Much like with similar music shows like Nashville, FOX is even releasing a compilation album for viewers who haven’t been buying every track each week. The soundtrack for Empire, consisting of the best tracks from Season 1, will be released on March 10, so don’t be surprised if it lands on the Top 10 albums on iTunes. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if it topped the list.

Check out Empire at 9:00 PM Wednesday on FOX, and watch the latest preview for next week’s episode here. Only three episodes left this season!
