Fiat Chrysler Reveals Jaw-Dropping 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia for U.S. (PHOTOS)

Yesterday, at a special press event that featured a live performance from famed singer Andrea Bocelli, Fiat Chrysler unveiled the 2017 Alfa Romeo Guilia, which not only stands to give BMW a run for its money in the luxury sports sedan department, but which is also being eyed for North America. Yes, this Italian head-turner is headed to the U.S.!

In the live press conference event, Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne announced plans to spend 5 billion euro ($5.6 billion US) to develop eight new models, including the Giulia. And the U.S. is expected to figure into those plans in a big way, as the company predicts North America will account for roughly 150,000 sales out of the projected target goal of 400,000 sales worldwide by 2018.

According to Marchionne, the Giulia was designed, alongside the rest of Fiat Chrysler’s mysterious upcoming fleet, at a top-secret location near Modena, Italy. The bigwigs in charge are so leery about information getting leaked that this division is essentially separate from the rest of the company, isolated and segregated from the rest of Fiat Chrysler. And for such a top-priority team, Marchionne needed some top-shelf talent to bring these cars to life.

“We needed a team to think outside of the box to think form a clean sheet of paper. We needed people who could create a fresh approach,” Marchionne said. “Alfa Romeo is different because it has been though an intense purification process.”

But what of the Giulia herself? Well, the Giulia will have an aluminum, six-cylinder turbo petrol engine tuned by Ferrari-savvy engineers. Ultimately, the car is expected to produce 510 horsepower, and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mind-shredding 3.9 seconds. In addition, the Giulia will benefit from perfect 50/50 weight distribution for an improved driving experience. Behold the marvel below:

Alfa Romeo Giulia – La meccanica delle emozioni

Alfa Romeo is back. New Alfa Romeo Giulia. A car that couldn't be built by anyone else or anywhere else. #AlfaRomeoGiuliaAlfa Romeo è tornata. Nasce Nuova Giulia: un’auto che nessun altro poteva costruire, in nessun altro luogo.

I’m not a big sports sedan guy, but if I had the money (HA! In my dreams, maybe), I’d definitely consider giving the Giulia a go. Realistically, you couldn’t push her to her limits in a legal way, unless you’re on some sort of closed track. But the aesthetic alone is enough to recommend her. I know the look has been divisive among some auto enthusiasts, with some claiming that it’s one of the less attractive cars to ever come out of Italy. But I’m actually quite taken with how sleek and modern this looks, while not looking so obviously luxurious that you couldn’t still drive the damn thing downtown. I think it’s a big step towards Alfa Romeo regaining its former prestige. After all, they started off as a racing-oriented brand, and by infusing their vehicles with that racing-oriented approach, they’ve made even the suburbanite identity of sedans feel electric with excitement and possibility.

But what do you think of the Giulia? Sound off in the comments!
