Emmy Awards 2015 Winners: ‘Game of Thrones’ Wins Drama, ‘Veep’ Wins Comedy

The winners are in for the Emmy Awards 2015! And history was made!

Modern Family finally lost in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, as HBO’s Veep took home Emmy gold. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones won its very first Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, despite a season of mixed critical reviews (but soaring popularity).

Mad Men also won its very first acting award, as Jon Hamm took home the Emmy for his role as Don Draper, at long freaking last. Joining him in the winners circle as Best Actress in a Drama Series was Viola Davis, who won for ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. Davis is the first African-American woman to win this award, and her emotional speech, thanking her fellow nominees and other women of color on TV today, was one of the highlights of the show.

But that’s not all: Amy Schumer fought back tears after earning her first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series for her show, Inside Amy Schumer. She was joined in victory by fellow Comedy Central star Jon Stewart, who won Outstanding Variety Talk Series for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. All in all, the wealth was spread out pretty far. But I couldn’t have been happier with these results, personally.
