Lesley Nicol, known best as Downton Abbey‘s irascible cook Mrs. Patmore, has signed on for an as-yet unspecified role on ABC’s Once Upon A Time.
The news was broken by none other than Prince Charming himself, as Josh Dallas took to Twitter to gush: “As a Huge #DowntonAbbey Fan I’m very excited @lesley_nicol is coming to #OnceUponATime!” Former Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof replied, “It is unfair that England gets to see DOWNTON ABBEY before us because we beat them in a war”.
Nicol’s character is said to have a “special connection” with the Snow White family. (Any theories on which fairy tale character she could possibly play?)
In related casting news, The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green is also joining the fantasy hit as Tamara, a charming and likable woman with secret ambitions and a fearless determination to get what she wants. Right now, it is expected that Tamara will be a recurring character for the remainder of season two, and possibly continue into the show’s third season. For those not familiar with Martin-Green’s Walking Dead character offhand, she played Sasha, one of the new survivors who, along with Tyreese (Chad Coleman) happened upon the prison in the midseason finale. Martin-Green is expected to continue on the zombie hit when it returns in February.
