Doug Jones Joins ‘Arrow’ as Deathbolt

Arrow is getting another major DC villain to square off against this season.

Multi-talented character actor Doug Jones is joining Season 3 of Arrow as Jake Simmons, the man otherwise known as the supervillain Deathbolt. He will make his first appearance in episode nineteen, “Broken Arrow.”

Deathbolt’s appearance is significant in that this will be the first metahuman villain to appear in the series, as Deathbolt can control electricity and use plasma energy. The origin of these abilities on the show is uncertain, although they could easily write it so that Simmons receives his powers in the same Particle Accelerator explosion that turned Barry Allen into The Flash. After all, they share the same universe, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to have one of Arrow’s villains originate in The Flash’s stomping grounds.

Jones, who’s worn heavy-duty makeup and prosthetics in everything from Hellboy to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, will also be busy this year in the final season of TNT’s Falling Skies, where he plays an alien. Jones is pretty much a chameleon of an actor, making him the perfect choice for this role, since Deathbolt is a multi-faceted villain.
