On the official Doctor Who Facebook page, the first promotional photos were released for the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas special, which will be titled “The Snowmen.” But that’s not all, as the official trailer for the episode, as well as a prequel minisode, have also been released.
Check out the sneak peek photos, which include Silurians (!), Sontarans (!!), and the return of a familiar face from the first half of series 7 (!!!), and then scroll down and have a look at the trailer/prequel webisode:
Showrunner Steven Moffat said, of the episode:
“The Doctor at Christmas is one of my favourite things – but this year it’s different. He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge. He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight? Enter Jenna-Louise Coleman…”
The Doctor himself, Matt Smith, also offered his comments on the special:
“For this year’s Christmas special we have the wonderfully villainous Richard E Grant as Doctor Simeon – as well as lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged warriors from the future, who all return to convince the Doctor that he should board the TARDIS again and save the world. Add to that Jenna-Louise Coleman, and so begins the Christmas Special 2012. I hope everyone enjoys it!”
“The Snowmen” has been described as a “movie-scale” episode with “a new monster that will have families shivering behind their sofas.” The episode will also serve as a bridge between part one of Series 7 and 2013′s continuation, by introducing The Doctor’s new companion while also dealing with the fallout from the departure of Rory and Amy Pond.
The 2012 Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Snowmen”, will air December 25. I can’t wait!
