Demi Lovato and Britney Spears to judge The X Factor – Report

  • by Rickey

The X Factor · Britney Spears · Demi Lovato · Judges

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears will be the new judges beside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid on The X Factor. Sources tell E News that offers have been made and the two have agreed to the conditions, and it’s only a matter of signing on the dotted line.

So what do I think of this hot mess? Of course I love it. This has trainwreck written all over it and I will be glued to my TV set.

Demi Lovato is hardly qualified to be a judging a program giving away a $5 million cash prize. She’s barely out of her teens, and her only hit ‘Skyscraper’ L.A. Reid didn’t even recognize last season on the show.

Britney Spears however is a real star — but is she coherent? She’s probably going to be more imbalanced than Christina Aguilera is on The Voice. Christina is already a mess — I fear for my life watching her judge, coach, mentor… and sing on The Voice.

This is going to be so amazing, I cannot wait. See you in the fall Demi and Britney!

I actually LOVE this idea. Now, don't shoot me. You have to remember, The X-Factor isn't "really" about having a great voice. It's also about being a performer. Britney Spears is the epitome of that. Maybe not anymore, but in her prime, she was "IT." So, I think she's perfect for the job. With Jason Trawick as her conservator and producer on the show, I think he'll help her manage the pressure.

Also, I think Demi is perfect for the job as well. She'll be able to help the younger contestants (like Rachel Crow and Drew R.). Surprisingly, she's one of the few singers to come from Disney that has a great voice. So, she does have alot to offer. Most young kids/teenagers aspiring to be like her. She's been through alot, and it's been over a year since she's been in rehab for cutting. I think this is great :)

@jlscott13 Exactly. The concept of this show is about having that something extra that draws people to you. It's what being a star is about. Demi has that in spades.

@JeremyGable  @jlscott13 You may be a fan, but she really would only be pulling in the same demo as Britney. Even the thread about this at ATRL, which you would think would be positive, is mostly WTF??? Total joke. Do you realize how absurd that panel is going to look? Probably be the death of the show, and I'd like to see it stick around. Gwen Stefani would be the best addition if the rumours are true she was going to host. David Walliams could then be the host.

@jlscott13 I responded to these points down below. I still think she's a lightweight, and is in fact turning many off. Britney at least has the experience. Simon needs a quality singer with industry gravitas and critical acclaim. Unfortunately, by shelling out as much as he has for Britney, he's created a situation where no one in their right mind except a Demi or Avril type would take the job. He's inflated the market now.

I won't watch The X Factor this year.

@MarianoRiley I feel the same.  Atleast some of the international versions are better (Australia, GB).

I for one think Demi will make a fantastic judge.

@JeremyGable I agree. She has the vocal chops to judge a "singing" competition. :)

@JeremyGable I noticed a link on the previous blog about this to MTV's article. Interesting read, and I 100% agree: http://www.rickey.org/demi-lovato-the-judge-the-x-factor/

@rezzzy I disagree with that article about X-Factor being desperate. Anyone who knows the UK version knows Simon does these types of leaks for press attention. Does it translate as well in the US? Probably not, because we still view most reality shows are D-List. But that's his strategy.

@JeremyGable I know it's his strategy in the UK, but the epic fail last year and poor feedback should have taught him it doesn't fly in the US.

@JeremyGable I think Simon is thinking how Tulisa won with Little Mix, and he's all about boyband and girlband teen pop comeback. Besides older women, tweens are the few who actually BUY music on a large scale. Probably because it's their parents money...

@rickey Britney is good but even tho I love Demi, she has no experience to be giving advice

If this is true, I highly doubt the two women will actually last for the whole series of the show. By getting someone current, you're at risk for them putting forth more effort in regards to their own career instead of the show.

All I know is that Whitney Houston would have been the single greatest addition to the show ever. I'm going to miss her and keep wondering what could have been.

jlscott13
jlscott13 5pts

@takakupo Well, considering that Whitney was still on drugs till the end, that would not have been a good idea.

 @jlscott13  @takakupo Two words....Paula Abdul ;-)

It probably would have been good for her to be out in the public eye again. She would have had more people paying closer attention to her. A shame. Also, as Simon said, she was the one most contestants were influenced by when asked, so age would not have been a factor. A 14 year old girl would probably have been more thrilled working with Whitney than Demi. Someone like Aretha would be great - but she'd scare the hell out of people, including Simon, which would be awesome :-D

Is this really a done deal? I'm just seeing it as escalated rumours at this point....

rezzzy

Yet they are saying Gwen Stefani may be HOST? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. But when you think of it, almost all of the women on Simon's shows in the UK are talentless twits except for Sharon.
