David Archuleta, 16 from Murray, UT, auditions from American Idol 7
David Archuleta won Star Search when he was 12.
David said he had vocal paralysis recenlty — which is now healed. He sang “Waiting for the World to Change”.
OMG — the pimping begins! The judges loved him. It was kinda like a so-so audition. This guys looks like he’s going straight into the Top 24.
Anyway, there’s already a fanclub: they’re called the Arch Angels. Good luck David Archuleta.

LOL Rightsaidcat: I'm here too. I thought I was the only one. HA! Ah, yes, the good old days. I see that at #20, ealbino was predicting the future! HA!!! Too funny! Little did we know what havoc DA has done to our lives! Yes, ealbino, he's the real deal, the whole package!
I wasn't on Rickey's yet when this topic was posted but...
mykalromero - his one vocal cord was really paralyzed from a virus or infection - the one cord could not move. And as we found out near the Idol finale, an ENT specialist says David's one vocal cord is still paralyzed.
My favorite Idol ever. Amazing voice.
I know David personally.... and I can't believe I'm actually writing on this, but he is one of the sweetest kids I know! His audition wasn't the greatest... I've seen him at his best over time and he is INCREDIBLE! Honestly, he's one of the best singers I've ever heard. And he definitely knows how to work a crowd. At the end of this last summer, we had a party to celebrate the summer, and of course he sang. His eyes! when he sings... if he really gets into it... they're simply amazing. HE melted my heart. I honestly fell for the kid. I have to admit, at first I thought he might be gay, (this confession is why my name is anonymous) but I swear he's not! I've been around him so much and I love him. I think he's totally ready for this! He's just a little shy at first. But once again, not stage shy AT ALL. He's not your ordinary kid... he's so much better!
Okay, I know that this is a thread for David but while we're on the subject of young male singers, I just want to say this:
It's a shame that they didn't show Danny Noriega sing. He also made the top 50 and that boy can SING.
Not that David can't too!
Oh yeah..I remember this kid from Star Search. He was on when Arsenio Hall was hosting. He blew everyone away with his very Soulful/R & B delivery and son choices.
He was like the "fish out of water" archetype...by amazing everyone that this little white kid from Utah could sing with so much soul.
Yes, I remember him well. And I think he is intentionally starting low key (as not to accentuate his Star Search win and will build. He has plenty of singing experience and nows how to work the stage...if he could do it at the age of 12...I'm sure he hasn't lost his touch to woo a crowd.
It's always hard to judge a singer on auditions - some really do have off days and nerves are a major factor. But this kid wasn't that good at all. He sounded like any other 17 year old trying to sing older than he is; and he went off key more than once.
Sure it's pimping from the judges - they see a cute, likeable kid with an okay voice that could do well.
David is their money shot.
My favorite guy so far. Hope he does well in the competition. My mom loves him, says he's so cute, lol.
I pretty much agree with richie. Not my fave song, but David sang it very well. I really like his voice - the runs sounded effortless. He also seems like a really sweet and grounded kid. I'm not sure a 16-y-o male winner is what AI needs this season, but I'll keep an open-mind.
I can't believe he messed up his lines after years of singing in front of people, especially star search. Nevertheless, I love him.. I hope he gets to top 24 so I can vote. good looking, good voice, charisma, now that's a package!
I really liked his audition. His voice was very naural and smooth. I hope his voice holds out - he sounded a bit hoarse while he was talking.
Nice voice. That paralyzed vocal chord could give him problems should he make it to the semi-finals, though.
I thought he was pretty good. You can tell that if he had a bit more experience w/ age he'd be alot better. But I'm sure all of the little pre-teens and early teen girls just fell in love with him.
There are videos of him on YouTube singing Christmas carols in church.
Very impressive, I must say! You should check them out.
I like his voice, thought he sounded very good. I didn't like the song [no matter who is singing it], but enjoyed his voice. And he seems to have some real charm and charisma. Lookl forward to hearing more.
Trust me, I've seen all of Thomas' YouTube videos. Every time he posts a new one he lets all his Myspace friends know.
I've seen video clips of David singing on Star Search and you're right, he did grow as a singer.
haha yea TainaAzteca haha yea i love menudo! it was really sad that thomas didnt make it but at least hes still doing his thing.performing and stuff..his youtube vids r really kool and funny..........but yeah i remember david from start search a long time ago cuz he was my age so im guessing hes 17 now...he grew up good lol
I didn't know Star Search was still existing.I liked this kid and I agree with Simon his song choice was good too.I'm sure the gals will love him.
LOL newyoricannyc, you've been watching Road to Menudo and Making Menudo too?
Thomas didn't make the group, unfortunately.
I never saw David on Star Search but everybody else seems to have.
omg TainaAzteca!! he does remind me of thomas!! haha thta was the first thing i thought of.....then his talking voice at the end reminded me of chris from menudo....and i remember this kid from star search a looong time ago i was wondering where he went
im really glad hes back in the spotlight and he for deff has my vote!
Nice voice, he's been there before so he's ready. The judges or Seacrest should tell us when these guys have won other competitions and/or have record deals.
I just can't get over how much he looks and sounds like one of my Myspace friends, Thomas Agusto, who's a singer also.
I'm liking this kid too. I hope he goes far.
That's a good start. I guess once hollywood is shown and the top 24 starts singing live then he will impress the audience even more. Nice steady momentum to build up fans.
too bad "arch angels" is pronounced "ark angels"... and not arch like an archway. LOL
he was very good. he'll be super popular with the girls too haha
