Danny Tidwell in the New York Times

Danny Tidwell

So He Knows He Can Dance: A Prince Among Paupers (NYTimes)

If Mr. Tidwell is different from the other dancers on the show, the distinction has as much to do with his dignity as with his impeccable line and his ability to infuse slight choreography with authority, rare on such a talent show. When it comes time for him to pose while a phone number for viewers’ votes flashes on the screen, he never mugs for the camera. It’s sad, yet hardly a surprise, that such behavior could be taken as superciliousness.

Ah Mr. Danny Tidwell

What's sad is that Gene Anthony Ray, the dancer that played Leroy on FAME, died in 2003. I loved FAME the movie and the television show as well.

I've never seen an article about SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE in the New York Times. It's clear Danny Tidwell has kicked up the show's prestige level. Credibility never hurts a show.

I don't think the New York Times will be dissecting any of these new, viral "Don't Forget the Lyrics" shows. :{

Danny is undoubtably the best male dancer on the show. He is immpecable. The problem is he is not competing for America's best dancer. It's for America's Favorite. And while he is handsome and proud, he refuses to play the game that will allow him to win. Adam Shankman is the thrd Choreographer/judge to call him arrogant. Danny is not built for this kind of competition. Travis had the personality to go along with his skills. Danny is even more talented but his nature is not going to get the votes in the end. This is the reality of the show. But don't cry for Danny Tidwell. He surely doesn't need to win this if the New York Times is singing his praises. He'll work as a dancer till his legs fall off, because he is the most talented dancer in the room. Just not the favorite of enough voters.

"A Prince Among Paupers"...

Wow, that became ever more apparent tonight (and has been apparent throughout the season).

And just for the record, the judges are full of crap.

The 'It' factor seems to be eluding Danny right about now. He has the undeniable talent, the good looks, the chiseled body & yet I find myself as disconnected with his performance as he is when he dances with his partner. His solo performances are breathtaking. I wish that he could transport himself when dancing with Anya because she is fabulous also. I think her abilities are slightly underappreciated because she's paired with him. I don't believe he is arrogant - just confident. People are quick to throw 'arrogant' out there & he's had that term thrown at him this season but apperas to shirk it.

1 thing Danny must remember: Since everyone on SYTYCD CAN DANCE, it is not necessarily about who is the 'best' but who is the most 'popular'!

LOL. My eyes were glued to Danny's body the entire time. Yummy!

That guy from Hairspray was annoying.

Yeah, He's good. But, like Nigel was saying tonight..and they guy from Hairspray...he lacks something...that *spark* that makes me want to like him. He does come accross as arrogant..and I, quite frankly, find myself looking at his partner more than him..

lotus: Oh, there's nothing like television! With the press of a button, an artist can be seen by millions, even tens of millions of viewers in an instance. If Danny was to win, there is an immediate financial award; $250,000.00! An international tour & a part in a major stage production. And that's just the initial rewards!
There are still mega benefits even if Danny were NOT to win...primarily because, well, have you seen him DANCE!?!!?! Yesssss!!!! [smile]

I agree that Danny is way beyond this show and I can only guess that the reason he auditioned was to gain national recognition. I hope he'll be able to write his own ticket after this whatever place he finishes in.

After reading that I would have laughed too to know Cedric was safe and he was in the bottom 3. He has so much talent but I can see that confidence comes off as arrogance. I hope he makes top 10 cause I will defintely buy a ticket if I can get to see him live.

I have never uderstood why Danny tried out for SYTYCD. He IS a cut above everyone and I can't see where the show can take him, except being slammed, possibley? Most of my friends who danced ballet as kids would have died to be part of ABT. Dance is such a weird world. At least with American Idol, you can put out some music and see if you have staying power. Dancers have always seemed to be in their own niche and had their followers or not. I could not get my boyfriend to attend the ballet with me if my life depended on it. So, this will be interesting to see how it plays out. I was surprised by the article though, NY must be sticking up for one of its own.

Danny is so stunningly beautiful. He looks like a dancing Adonis. He should model. Please post more pictures!!

Oh, and I love the article. It's about time Nigel gets slammed for his reality TV hijinks and manipulations.

I'm glad they slammed Nigel, he's one of the reasons I don't watch it. Simon I can understand, but Nigel has that snide "I'm better than you" know-it-all attitude. I agree Danny should play Leroy. Just change the name.

Hi Rickey-

Thanks for that article. What an awesome and IMO accurate reading of SYTYCD. Danny is too good for that show. (but I can't say I'm not glad he's on it because otherwise I wouldn't know of the god that he is!) I wonder how Nigel and the rest of the show's producers feel about this article. The NY Times is quite legit and highly respected.

I hope it doesn't cause them to treat Danny worse than they already do! Whatever happens I think Danny's star will continue to rise. He is just too amazingly hot not to!!!
