Since winning season 4 of The Voice, Danielle Bradbery has been hard at work putting together material for her debut album, including her very first single.
The song, “The Heart of Dixie,” has had a preview snippet released online. However, the tune is a bit more mature than fans of the country songstress might have expected. The song centers on a neglected housewife leaving her loser husband, and features lyrics such as “She had a dead-end job at the national bank/And a deadbeat husband who always drank/So when he didn’t come home he had the gin to thank/For the tears in her eyes/So Dixie packed up and said her goodbyes.”
As previously reported, the track is penned by Brett James (Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel”), Troy Verges (Carrie Underwood’s “Wasted” and Hunter Hayes’s “Wanted”) and Caitlyn Smith (Cassadee Pope’s “Wasting All These Tears”), and marks a significant departure for Bradbery, who won America’s hearts by singing about grandpas, hometowns, young love and other popular images from Country Time lemonade ads.
