Dance Moms – Season 3 Episode 7 – Recap – Rotten to the Core
Reality TVThe recap of Dance Moms – Season 3 Episode 7 – “Rotten to the Core”:
It has been approximately three weeks since we’ve last seen humor from Dance Moms. I guess we’ll have to wait a little bit longer as this episode was nothing but drama. Ooh, I’m dying to see a little humor here! Humor me, please! I thought Christi’s absence was evident this week. She really knows when and how to deliver her little sly remarks (about Abby, Melissa, or whomever). From the episodes I’ve seen thus far, I think she’s the funniest of the mothers. Episode 7 lacked a bit of oomph because we were missing two key pieces of the puzzle: dancer Chloe and her mother Christi. In order for this series to appeal to the masses, I believe all the original dancers and mothers need to stay on the show.
Abby did the pyramid a little differently this week. Instead of starting from the bottom of the pyramid, she started from the top. Here are the rankings (from top-most to bottom-most).
- Kendall
- Maddie
- Nia
- Paige
- Mackenzie
- Brooke (Yay! She’s finally back on the pyramid!)
Chloe and Christi were suspended for the week.
This week, the competition took place in Detroit, Michigan (and Cathy’s Apple-Core Boys’ Team participated as well).
Dancer Sophia and her mother Jackie finally showed up to the studio (unannounced). On the day of the competition, however, Jackie and Sophia stood up Abby because Jackie could not deal with Abby’s method of teaching anymore. Abby even admitted that she drove Jackie and Sophia away! And Sophia was supposed to do a solo this week… I guess this is the last we’ll see of them. (They are not major characters anyhow, so this is not a devastating blow to the team).
Dancers Nia and Paige were scheduled to perform a duet this week, but Abby pulled it last minute because she and Holly had an argument. We also learned that Nia suffers from Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy (RND). Nia is a sweetheart. I’m glad she’s doing better now.
Here’s a bit of Abby & Holly’s fight:
Abby: “Your mouth (Holly’s mouth) is ugly, woman!”
Holly: “Well, you know what? You (Abby) are a monstrosity of evil!”
Also: I learned something new: not only are Abby’s dance moms OFF THEIR ROCKERS, but so are Cathy’s dance dads! Cathy’s dance dads have sure got some testosterone flowin’ up in their hizzhouse! One of her dance fathers in particular, Rick, gave Abby a VERY public verbal beat down at the competition. Does he not know how to be polite? The least he could do is talk to her in private…
Abby Lee Miller gave Kendall and Maddie solos this week. Over at the Candy Apple’s Dance Center, Cathy gave Gino a solo.
Kendall’s Solo – Jazz Piece:
Her performance was decent, but it wasn’t as good as last week’s. Abby thinks she needs to work on her face and her emotion. She didn’t place this week.
Maddie’s Solo – “Quicksand” – Lyrical Piece:
She did an outstanding, phenomenal job! I actually don’t remember the last time Maddie had a solo. It’s been too long. She placed first overall.
Candy Apples – Cathy’s Dancer – Gino’s Solo – Jazz Piece:
His number was cute; however, Cathy should’ve spent more time on his choreography. He placed eighth overall.
Abby’s Dancers – Group Number – “Avalanche” – Contemporary Piece:
They used a white, heavy table as a prop to represent their “avalanche.” The girls also wore beanies and winter outfits to represent their journey through the avalanche. This routine and choreography was a bit boring. It isn’t one of Abby’s finest numbers. They placed third overall.
Cathy’s Dancers – Group Number – Apple Core – “Top of the World”:
The judges loved the boys’ routine, and so did I. They placed first overall. This is the first time that Cathy has beat Abby. Her boys are totally adorbs, but Cathy just needs to shut it once in awhile. I cannot stand her! That woman has a MOUTH on her! And, I mean, “MOUUUTTHHH.” She really knows how to push people’s buttons.
After the competition ended, Cathy entered Abby’s dressing room to gloat at her and the other dance moms. Here’s how the fight went down:
- Abby accidentally flung some water on Cathy (she thought she put the cap on her water bottle).
- Then, Jill intentionally drenched Cathy with her water bottle.
- Cathy hit Jill and Abby with her purse. Like, really hard.
- Cathy drenched Jill with her water bottle.
- The security guards broke up the fight.
- While the security guards escorted Cathy out of the dressing room, Jill said to Cathy, “Get lost, B*tch.”
- Abby broke down emotionally, so she gave her mother a phone call.
- Melissa thought Abby was going to have a heart attack.
- The other dance moms failed to comfort Abby.
- In reference to Abby’s breakdown, dance mom Holly said, “What goes around, comes around. Karma is there when you need it.” [OUCH! That's a total burn.]
Oh, and the previews for next week show Kelly and Christi having an explosive argument. Christi and Chloe are back next week (YAY!)
