Dami Im – Purple Rain – The X Factor Australia 2013

Dami Im sang “Purple Rain” on The X Factor Australia 2013 Live Show 2.

Prince is not happy that his songs (even covers) end up on YouTube. The official The X Factor Australia video was taken down by Controversy Music! Thank goodness there are copies of the video floating around YouTube now. But it’s just a matter of time before the Purple One removes them all.

Oh and this performance was great. But is Dami peaking too soon???

Okay, I just gave it a first listen....this was so karaoke. I think that has more to do with Australia's distinct lack of knowledge when it comes to production or handling musical artists...but still.

She's a bright glimmer of hope in this mediocre group of finalist!

Crazy that she pretty much is only there because someone else having to pull out/

What a delightful surprise this girl has turned out to be.  She definitely could be peeking too soon Rickey, but she making a name for herself regardless of the outcome.

Back in 2008, Dannii mentored another woman who sang "Purple Rain" quite well.  That was Ruth Lorenzo.  A video clip is as follows:

@aryehgizbar I've just been wondering if her shy, awkward, giggly first audition(s) were a bit of a put-on?  Could she be an amazing actress?

@KatManFoSho Oh Ruth Lorenzo, my first X Factor crush. Le sigh...

Hell of a voice on that woman.

@KatManFoSho @IdleTime I don't think it's pre-recorded.  I do think it's definitely "sweetened" in the studio.  The enthusiastic response of Im's performance is due mostly to the song and her supposedly new styling of it.  I don't think ppl know the Stacy's version.  Im doesn't have the range nor the maturity in her tone to match Stacy's.

Im's versin is aaiiight.  Nothing to write home about.

@KatManFoSho @IdleTime I love Staci's version, pre-recorded or not. The production value on that was crazy, and Staci never had an amazing talent for being on key. She did however have a mature tone like the previous poster stated and I think it's unfair to say that "they don't need to be ranked..." when you're ranking them yourself XD

@IdleTime- Please explain the significant difference between something "sweetened in the studio" and pre (or post) recorded?  In terms of comparing Stacy's doctored version to that of either Dami's or Ruth's, Ms. Francis' is a fraud. Few made much of a fuss about this at the time, because the public wasn't voting.  Btw, Stacy of course has more maturity in her tone, she was 46 at the time and Dami is 24. Stacy was an unemployed professional singer at the time, and Dami is currently an amateur.

You seem to be under the false impression that these renditions need to be ranked.  They don't.  They can't even fairly be compared because one (Stacy's) has been enhanced and the others weren't.  The only thing you are correct about here is that people truly liked the song first, and then the way it was performed.  End of story.
