Colin Farrell Had a Romantic Relationship with Elizabeth Taylor
If things had worked out differently, Colin Farrell had big dreams to be Elizabeth Taylor‘s eighth husband. No, really.
The two crossed paths at Cedars Sinai Hospital, where Farrell’s son Henry was being born and Taylor was getting a stint put into her heart.
“I said, ‘Will you tell her I said hello? She probably won’t know who I am,’” Farrell recalled asking Taylor’s manager Tim Mendelsohn. “And they go, ‘No, she knows who you are.’ And I went, ‘Wow, cool. Well, tell her I said hello and I wish her the best,’ and they said, ‘Will do.’”
He later sent some flowers her way only to realize that she had thought to send him an orchid first along with a handwritten note.
Farrell would later arrange to meet Taylor through his assistant and he was granted “an audience” with the legend herself.
“That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool [relationship]. It was kind of like the last — it feels like in my head, not hers, I’m projecting — but the last kind of romantic relationship I had. Which was never consummated.”
Farrell also recalled that they would have late night phone calls, calling the actress at 2:00 in the morning and talking for hours because neither of them could sleep.
Joked the actor of their dynamic, “I just adored her. She was a spectacular, spectacular woman. I wanted to be [husband] number eight, but we ran out of road.”
