CMT Music Awards 2016 Nominations: Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Blake Shelton, More

The nominations have been revealed for the CMT Music Awards 2016, and the nominees feature many familiar faces from reality singing competitions, including the dearly departed American Idol.

Carrie Underwood scored two huge nominations for her single, “Smoke Break”, which earned nods for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year. She’ll be competing against The Voice coach Blake Shelton (“Sangria”), former Idol judge Keith Urban (“John Cougar, John Deer, John 3:16”), and breakthrough artist Thomas Rhett (“Die A Happy Man”), just to name a few of the twelve nominees in the category. Carrie also will be competing in the Performance of the Year race, for best performance on a CMT show. Her version of “Smoke Break” from CMT Instant Jam will go up against the awesomely unlikely duo of Adam Lambert and Leona Lewis, whose version of “Girl Crush” from CMT Artists of the Year poses a major threat in the category. On the subject of categories, CMT will be announcing a new one on June 1, but just what that category will be is a mystery so far. But hey, we’re open to hearing speculation! What do you think it’ll be? Let us know in the comments. And check out the complete list of CMT Music Awards 2016 nominations below:
