LA Sheriff: Chris Brown investigated for possible assault in fight over parking spot

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating allegations that Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown assaulted a man in a West Hollywood parking lot.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to a report Sunday night of six men fighting.

Witnesses told deputies that the brief fight was over a parking space.

The department says the “altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim.”

The “victim” wasn’t identified but the celebrity website TMZ, which first reported the incident outside a recording studio, says the fight also involved Frank Ocean, a nominee in the upcoming Grammy Awards. He later tweeted that he “got jumped by (Brown) and a couple guys” and suffered a finger cut.

The department says it will contact Brown later.

Brown’s attack on singer Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy awards overshadowed the show. He was injured in a June 2012 brawl with members of hip-hop star Drake’s entourage at a New York nightclub.

According to the initial TMZ report, Frank Ocean's people started it. I understand the kneejerk reaction is to dogpile on Brown, but maybe he wasn't completely at fault this time?

Chris Brown has the criminal past and anyone who saw images of what he is capable of, and is not disdained by him, ... never will be, no matter what he does. His disturbingly insane supporters will ignore whatever he does and make excuses for him and keep him in the media spotlight. He's a violent, chronic batterer and a misogynist and homophobe as well. He has proven this by his actions. Frank Ocean has not been in the media for this shite, has never been accused of assault and has a reputation as a nice guy. With all due respect, Quinntes...there is no "knee jerk" here...just common sense. Because Chris' people, his friends, are telling his side...does not make it true! If Chris Brown tried to shake my hand after hurling gay slurs toward me...I'd have someone intervene too. F.Ocean was likely afraid he'd be physically pummeled. As far as I'm concerned, Brown, by his own, repeated and unrepentant actions, does not deserve the benefit of any doubt here.

@Mikhail XO @Quinntes Right. Chris Brown has a criminal past. Therefore he is guilty until proven innocent. Base speculation always gets to the bottom of things. Sounds like estimable "common sense" to me.

@Quinntes @Mikhail XO Really? Is this what I said? READ AGAIN. A defendants past offenses are weighed very heavily in the American legal system. In fact, significantly more weight is given to a defendant's past history here in the states than in the UK. Americans love ranting "Innocent until proven guilty"...but they hardly know that the application of this principle is rarely realised. This is not the same as measuring Chris Brown's word against Franks Ocean's word.

So 'Common sense' you say?...yes--adopt some.

There is an uncomfortable undercurrent of racism in your fascination with posting about Chris Brown at Rickey.org. Oh my...will this blog ever quit it's obsession with reporting on his every move? (2 posts this morning) Yes, he is universally detested and reviled; and whilst it's not inherently racist to talk about his numerous crimes...the constant relish and undeserved attention this blog seems to favour him when there are so many other talented African American artists who lead decent lives, and who are deserving of some attention ...well, it's hard not to see some racism here.
