Cher and Keri Hilson Defend ‘Blackface’ NAACP Leader Rachel Dolezal
Cher and Keri Hilson have come to the defense of Rachel Dolezal, the NAACP leader under fire for cultural appropriation and wearing blackface for at least a decade.
Both singers showed support for Dolezal on Twitter and were immediately met with criticism.
Hilson wrote that we should be thanking Dolezal for her hard work, brushing aside the fact that Dolezal has been using blackface for at least ten years. She uses makeup to darken her skin and perms her hair. Hilson said:
Let’s just all thank #RachelDolezal. Identity, pathological, & parental issues aside, she’s doing more than most of us do for ourselves.
So in one tweet, Keri managed to defend a white woman wearing black face and attack the black community at the same time. F-king amazing!
Meanwhile, Cher showed pity on Dolezal, saying that her parents were “cruel” to out her as a white cultural appropriator of black culture:
WHY did Rachel Dolezal’s Parents OUT Their Daughter? It Was
Cruel.I Don’t Know WHY She Chose Her PATH,But Who Doesn’t Want 2 have Blk COOL
Again, in one tweet, Cher justified black face and cultural appropriation because it’s “cool to be black.”
Rachel Dolezal and the NAACP plan to give a statement on Monday addressing the issue.
Blackface is blackface. Tens years of blackface is ten years of blackface. Ten years of cultural appropriation is ten years of cultural appropriation.
Obviously this woman is mental. What’s wrong with Cher and Keri Hilson???
Rachel Dolezal is demonstrating unprecedented white privilege in the black community, it’s really stunning.
