Got Something to Add?
@rockers Aren't Clarkson, Underwood, Daughtry, JHud and to lesser extents Phillips and McCreery stars? They didn't say "AI makes every single contestant stars".
@IdleTime @rockers That's not what Nigel and some of the producers said. They've insinuated that even if you don't win American Idol, the show will still turn you into a star and be employed in the industry. They suggested that being on the show is the greatest thing that has ever happened to you.
American Idol did not make Jennifer Hudson a star. The Oscars did. And you mention six people. Six people in 11 season is a horrible success rate to claim that the show "makes stars".
We are only repeating what Nigel and the show has said time and time again even in the promos for Season 12.
Allison Iraheta is a star. She's singing backup for the winner of The Voice! She wouldn't have gotten this kind of opportunity if it weren't for American Idol according to Nigel's logic.
@IdleTime Season 12 is going to be amazing!!! Can't wait!!!
@IdleTime And I'm not arguing! American Idol has launched Allison Iraheta's career as a backup singer for Cassadee Pope! Allison placed higher than Jennifer Hudson remember? And JHud is your "Star". C'mon. Don't pick and choose when it's convenient.
American Idol makes STARS!!! Stars!!!
I still don't see what they've "insinuated" is incorrect. It's true that even if you don't win AI, the show can still launch your career and you can be employed in the industry. Non winners like JHud, Daughtry, Lambert, McPhee, Pickler, Aiken and maybe a dozen others... are examples of this. They either are acting in major TV shows or have had gold/platinum albums or singles. Again, they didn't say that the show will make every single contestant a star.
The Oscars made JHud a star? Really? For doing what? Why were they so nice to her?
It's impossible to pin-point what make a person a "star" or to have a long career. It's probably a combination of talent, luck, hard work, perserverance and the indefinable x-factor. But it's hard to argue against the fact that AI has been a huge launching platform for the many willing and able. To claim that its success rate is horrible you have to at least point out another singing contest show that has done better.
Whatever your opinion is about AI's success rate, using Allison Ihareta (a 4th placer) singing backup to Cassadee doesn't really prove any point. If you see Kris Allen singing backup for Cassadee, then maybe.
