He was not pitchy at all!!!! That's the style jazz singer's choose they do different notes meaning they use notes other people wouldn't normally because they are harder to sing and hold!!! I have a really good ear with pitch so I would know if he wasn't on pitch and he was!!! The end note was killer!!!! I didn't expect him to use that specific note and it was awesome!! Also, remember that when playing the bass he played its hard to keep on pitch since the pitch of the bass is obviously much lower therefore you have to almost "harmonize" with the bass.

oh well casey is my fave... and scotty!!! they should be in the finals. james can come as third runner up. i love casey a lot i think he's just extra talented. both of them are likeable.
I have Bose noise cancellation head phones and this was not a pitchy performance. His arrangement and style allow him to sing around the notes; it gives the performance color. He's not Nat King Cole, so he used what he has and brought the song some tempo and fun and in that way, did make it contemporary.
Wow. It's crazy when a society of today's vast amount of potential can be so damned ignorant. Anyone that thought Caseys performance of nature boy was anything but spectacular is a fool. I have studied music of all sorts and on numerous instruments for 25 years, and what this kid can do is incredible. I apologize to all of those that can only comprehend a 1,3,4,5 chord progression. I mean, do you even know what a flat 13 or an augmented 15 is? To say he was "Pitchy, Pitchy, Pitchy" is f-ing ridiculous. I would put money that he is the one and only contestant on this show right now with perfect pitch. Not to mention he's a badass upright bass player. A long lost art. Ignorance is not a virtue.
I love Casey. And I love that he's experimental. But this didn't work. It's half finished and needed more rehearsal and polish. His phrasing just wasn't pleasing here. I hope he doesn't go home.
Oh my dear God. Anyone who didn't think he sang that well, doesn't know anything about REAL music. I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend... but it's true. :-) I understand it might not be the kind of music that you necessarily like, that that's cool. But, what he did up there was INCREDIBLY difficult. Playing and singing something that has a melody that is so random and atonal is really hard and he absolutely killed it! You have to have a ridiculously good ear and be a true musician to pull that off. He is sooooooo freakin' good! It's a shame that people don't give jazz more credibility because it takes a great amount of skill to perform it properly. I hope he sticks around and performs just like that so the public is exposed to this kind of music more. GO CASEY!!!!!
His performance was amazing! His use of minor notes was daring and original. It is rare to see a live performer even attempt some of those notes because it is very hard to land on them accurately. It makes me sad that so many people are just too ignorant to understand the complexity of a vocal performance like he gave. The finest music is lost on this rap generation. Go Casey!
cant please everyone and sorry,he really wasnt entertaining for me.. the ahhhmm and growl he makes at every song isnt entertaining at all..and the to the judges,no need for a standing O,it;s not that amazing ..again,my opinion
Could you please get rid of that awful demonized photo of Casey? I'm sure it doesn't help him. I loved his performance. I feel bad that it seems his confidence is shaken, and it shows.
Maybe it's my hearing, but all I heard was lousy singing and him clearing his throat twice. To me, it was the worst ever in the history of the show. I actually enjoyed William Hung and Mary Roach more than this. And that guy that sang Madonna's Like a Virgin.
Can't stand the producer, Jimmy and Will-i-am. They know nothing and that Jimmy is an arrogant thing. So glad a lot of the Idols here don't listen to his advice. When he said to James Durbin "I'm not an accident"...I wanted to hit him, I swear (just because James said he's not going to listen to him and that he's going to go with his choice, instead.) And Will-i-am?? Huh? What on earth is he doing there? He hasn't opened his mouth...what a joke. Bring back the format where a singer came in every week to mentor. This Jimmy guy is ridiculous. Oh and to say about "The Impossible Dream" and "When you Walk Through a Storm" as being "corny" songs, is he kidding!! These songs have stood the test of time and will be around a lot longer than anything this fool produces!
Casey was AMAZING, AWESOME, TERRIFIC, (i could go on for years but that would be to long of a comment) as usual!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D <3
i love this song - not this version - i don't care for casey's grunts - they don't seem organic at all - he's doing it do do it and that's not great music, you know? - i actually thought he was clearing his throat at one point, but no it was him "feeling" the music, or making us try to think he is - imho
Jazz music I like...Casey's voice I do not...BORING and he is ugly. although tonite he seemed less hairy...thank God he did not wear shorts!!!
His weak voice was exposed tonight. I still think Haley goes home though.
Give Casey points for being original though. He is always interesting and never boring...
This was a little sleepy for me and lacked intensity yet I'm so happy that Casey stuck to his guns. This is who he is and he knows it. I think even if he got voted off tomorrow he'd still be happy with that performance.
Sorry I agree this was so BAD and he is the reason why Pia is gone....Casey my friend bad song choice...REALLY BAD....
Please send him home.....hated it! Big time.....Agree he is an artist but this probably was not the right time to sing this.....
This was AMAZING.
The only true artist on this show! GO Casey!
I admire you so so much! VOTE FOR HIM FANS! 5705!
Don´t let the real talent go!
No way Casey is going home...he is The Chosen One. Nigel's favorite, he's been hyping him up since before they even showed his audition. The stars are aligning for Casey..he's perfect for what Idol is looking for - a unique talent.
while it was different I did feel he lost control of it in the beginning.......and while I admire his desire to be an artist this could be his swan song
It was different and for the first time, jazz came to Idol. It's not always about being a rock or pop singer....and Casey is good with it. He's willing to take the fall should it come. I thought it showed his musicianship and he wants Esperanza to call him....I bet she does too.
That was horrible! Pitchy, pitchy, pitchy. What are the judges smoking? To put Casey in the same catagory with Nora Jones was a slap in the face to Nora Jones.
I know!!! He's not pitchy at all! Since jazz is so much more complex in terms of the melodic line than pop music is, people who don't know any better probably just assume that he's off... but he's NOT! And you're right, he easily definitely have perfect pitch the way he is able to find all those crazy notes. He's so great...
I loved the shout-out to Esperanza, the Grammy artist that nobody's ever heard of. It might've been a bit hokey to call it "education," but the fact that Justin Bieber was in the same category is laughable.

stop talking rubbish and if you think Haley sings any better then I have to ask what are you smoking
My condolences Rofl - being deaf and blind must be quite a crutch for you in life. It obviously is when it comes to judging AI.
Treat her like A lady? Really LOL standing O for anything pitchwyze has ever done or will do is a joke
A standing O for that affected pitchy nightmare?! You reserve standing O's for Fantasia's Summertime, Hudson's Circle of Life, Cook's Billie Jean, Lambert's Mad World, DeWyze's Treat Her Like a Lady, etc. I think if Casey substituted singing for farting a song the judges would love it. This whole season is getting ridiculous. Pay Simon a billion and get him back in the saddle.
Ha ha--comparatively speaking...he was awesome. This season is lucky to have Casey actually. At least he has good vocals...and is less pitchy than most.
I wouldn't say it was pitchy, but the jazz arrangement he gave that song was just awful! The song is totally not about smokey rooms and sizzling sex. He gave it this grotesque atmosphere. I hated it.
I agree. Casey was A BIG FAT MESS at the end. Then what did he say at the end? He really thinks he is great. BLECCCH!!!
