Buck 22 Featuring Billy Ray Cyrus – Achy Breaky 2 – Official Music Video
Billy Ray Cyrus is going back to what brought him to the dance: the singer has recorded a sequel to his 1992 country hit “Achy Breaky Heart” with the help of rapper Buck 22, The son of jazz drummer Bill Elliott and legendary R&B singer Dionne Warwick.
“Achy Breaky 2” is exactly the kind of brilliantly absurd track you might expect from someone who has a sense of humor about his pop culture identity. Of course, it’d probably be even funnier if Cyrus were playing it straight. Who knows? He just might be. Judge for yourself below:
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Buck 22 explained how the pairing came to be: “I asked [Billy Ray Cyrus] if he would mind if I could take a crack at remaking ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ and he looked at me for a moment, and said ‘lots of people have tried already, but go for it.’ He didn’t have a clue that I had already gone into the lab and cooked up a demo of what I thought would be a fun EDM/hip-hop styled version, which at the time only had a sample from the original of his voice. He liked what he heard and, weeks later, arrived at the session to record this track.”
I suppose only time will tell if this story ends up recounting the beginning of pop music/viral video history.
