Box Office: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Blasts Off To Record $53 Million in China
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” finally opened in the second-biggest box office market in the world China, and it racked a record $53 million on its debut.
The film also passed $800 million domestically in the U.S. beating “The Revenant” for the top spot this weekend. It earned an estimated $41.6 million against the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer which notched $38 million.
“The Force Awakens” now stands at $812 million in the U.S box office.
According to Variety:
Internationally, “The Force Awakens” picked up another $104.3 million this weekend, bringing its worldwide haul to a massive $1.73 billion. It is now the third highest-grossing movie in history, shooting past “Jurassic World’s” $1.67 billion global gross.
