Box Office: ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Tracking For $40 Million Opening Weekend

“Kung Fu Panda 3” is killing the box office this weekend with an estimated $40 million opening. It easily is beating new releases “The Finest Hours” and “Fifty Shades of Black.”

The Jack Black starrer earned $10 million on Friday and could reach up to $45 million for the weekend, according to Variety.

“The Revenant” starring Leonardo DiCaprio was at #2 for the week with an estimated $11 million. Domestic total for the Oscar front-runner is at $140 million.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” holds on to #3 with an estimated $9 million. Domestic total for the biggest movie in the U.S. of all time is now reaching $895 million. It is predicted that the movie will cross $2 billion worldwide by next week.
