I know some of you have been following this, so I feel bad that the Socceroos got eliminated at the LAST SECOND of the match. A penalty was called, and after Italy scored the penalty kick, the match was over. What a heartache. Italy pretty much won it on a “flop” (you know, those hilarious dramatics during the fouls — if the fouls were really that painful they should all be in crutches by now). So Italy advances and also does Ukraine after winning a penalty shootout with Switzerland — eek, how boring.

Anyway, Brazil vs. Ghana at 11 PM ET and Spain vs. France at 3 PM ET to complete the quarterfinals.

Today I discovered the power of bringing an SLR camera (with flash) to an event like Gay Pride: people are more than willing to pose for you! Omigosh, whatsup with that? Anyway, perhaps next year I will make sure I get some sort of press badge so I can run around the floats and take better closeups. Happy Pride people!

I fell in love for a couple hours and I followed anonymous “age of consent” gaycollegeparty.com model in white tanktop for three blocks. Innocent and dreamy.

Rodriguez’s stunning strike ends Mexico’s run (ESPN)

Argentina’s Maxi Rodriguez took aim, took a chance and lifted Argentina into the World Cup quarterfinals.

His soaring volley in the 98th minute Saturday gave Argentina a 2-1 victory over Mexico and put the tournament favorite into the final eight against Germany. The moment of brilliance also ousted hard-luck Mexico at this stage of the World Cup for the fourth consecutive tournament

At the end, several Mexican players were crying. Mario Mendez kicked the turf at the center of the field, walking glumly for the sideline. Teammate Francisco Fonseca sat nearby, staring up into the stands. Behind him in the far corner, bare-chested Argentina players twirled their shirts in the air, some dropping to their knees to salute their fans — and each other.

A red-letter soccer day! What a way to open the World Cup’s Round of 16 with matches from Germany vs. Sweden at 11 AM ET and Argentina vs. Mexico. The restaurants in Manhattan will grind to a halt at 3 PM ET for sure. LOL. I was working with a restauranteur two weeks ago and his business partner was complaining that all their busboys and cooks were hanging around watching TV. It only happens every four years, I said, let them have it.
