October Surprise Comments Off

I feel a little sad because I’m rooting for the Democrats to win the White House this year (just to get rid of Bush really, who is against every issue I believe in — stem cell research, pro-choice, gay rights, environmental protection, etc.), and it looks like Bin Laden just handed Bush the election with 3 days to go. The irony of it all. The very person whose capture/death Bush has bungled in the last three years, just gave Bush a boost in the polls. The media will talk about this after Tuesday. I really hope it doesn’t happen. I hope the voters in the swing states are smarter and not give in to Bush’s politics of fear.

If it does happen, then Nov. 3 will signal the start of Hillary Clinton’s run for president in 2008, which she would most likely win, since we are predicting that the second Bush term will be more of a catastrophe than the first one.

Cleaning House 2

I threw away some clutter in the room and I have noticed a minor improvement. I think the slow but sure approach is working, although I am dreading the throw clothes and other knick knack parts of my organization. There are a couple of mantras I will live by for the coming days: I will not keep any notes for anything that I now know I will never do (i.e. Flash programming, Advanced Excel) and I will not keep anything that I will never wear again regardless of any sentimental value (i.e. the Getty t-shirt that looks like a rag, the Dreamworks sweater which has been discolored by bleach, the stylish Banana Republic slacks I bought on sale four years ago which I never wore). I really want to get this over and done with, but I find myself looking at my “stuff” and I’m just stunned.

I just realized that the writing thing will begin soon, so I’m thinking of plots and reading some tips on how to get through this. At this moment, I have the science fiction plot in mind, which is about a young man who attempts to save his father from marauding aliens/robots. Originally, I thought of just free writing, but that would be too foolish. I have an outline handy now which needs more refinement, but I think a guide would be good. Without it, I may just mix and match all the other plots that I have in my head, and may accidentally insert an inappropriate sex scene while my lead character is blasting away at alien scum.

Domestic Issues 1

I could not find anything on Google about Archie Alemanya. And so, let this serve as the one true post/discussion on the guy for all the fans out there.

So who’s Archie Alemanya? Well, on my recent trip to Las Vegas, I spent some time watching Philippine TV via a satellite service called The Filipino Channel, and he was one of the hosts in a variety show called “MTB: Ang Saya Saya.” Watching that stuff for about an hour actually made me homesick. (I seemed to have forgotten that there are a lot of Filipino cuties out there, and it served as a pleasant reminder.) When I got back to New York, I subscribed to a video streaming service from the same Filipino channel, which has turned out to be a guilty pleasure at work (at the end of the day). Archie Alemanya apparently also stars in one of the sitcoms.

So I’m a fan. And out of desperation, I have written a post. May all his fans flock here from Google…

For the past couple of days I have been dealing with this new wardrobe set I bought from the Container Store. My place is a mess right now, partly because I have too many clothes, and “things”. Isn’t it ironic that in my attempts to organize, my room suddenly looks like a hurricane passed through it? I decided this morning that I will throw/donate most of what I have. It’s just too much clutter now.

Cats and Yoga Comments Off

Why do I like the Cornish Rex? They have a magnificent tail, velvety coat and they are very friendly like a dog. If I was getting a cat, I would probably get one. (More cat pics from my client today.)

After 2 months, I went to yoga class again! Kevin, Robin and I had lunch, and talked about life. At one point they made me feel guilty about my fish which lives in “a bowl”, so I went to Petland Discounts and bought Mr. Pink a 1/2 gallon bowl and some fake greens. I hope he’s happy.

Thanks to Dean, I signed up to write a novel in November. I hope I am not too busy next month so I can write this.

Red Sox Beat Yankees Comments Off

Thursday, October 21, 2004, 01:33 AM | Sports

I take full responsibility for this. On the year that I genuinely root for the New York Yankees, they get beaten by their most hated rival, the Boston Red Sox, in most spectacular fashion. Never have I rooted for a team that won a championship, and now I’ve brought the Yankees down with me. I’m sorry. It now looks like I’ve broken “the Curse”. Of course it also didn’t help the Yanks that they had horrible pitching towards the end. We knew this from the very beginning of the season when Clemens and Pettite left. I won’t be surprised if the entire bullpen get replaced next week.

This weekend, the New York Jets face the New England Patriots, and it looks like another one of my teams will get crushed like a bug by a team from Massachusetts. God help Gang-Green.

Lucky for me, I decided not to watch the baseball game on TV because it’s just too much for my senses. Instead I went to gaming night at the Gay Center and had fun! I also joined the guys for a late dinner, which became very productive because I had a great conversation with Dale regarding freelance computer consultancy, which I’m looking to get into seriously soon. He gave me advice on how to get started well, and I now feel like quitting my day job. (I won’t — just feel like it.) I hope it works out well for me. I am very excited about this.

Also this afternoon, I realized that I was a bit tense because of the Yankees and the job situation. However, when this happens in the future, I should remind myself not to bring my ATM card along with me. For some reason I made some surprise purchases which included a billiard cue stick. If I had more money I think I would have bought a computer.

Dean and Nikki: Together Again 2

Here are some pictures from my trip to Palm Coast, Florida over the weekend:

Dean, Nikki and daughter Sage are in the States visiting Nikki’s mom, the wonderful Tita Mina. Since I have not seen them for about 6 years, I thought it would be worthwhile to fly myself over there for a couple of days.

The trip affirmed that I do have friends in this world, and 6 years of being away just seemed like yesterday. In fact, except for the few pounds Dean has gained (sorry, Dean!), we all look (and act) the same. Not even parenthood can stop the infectious lust for life that is the trademark of Dean and Nikki.

There were some pleasant surprises however: In an ironic twist, breast-function does not always follow form. Singing with Dean (and in-laws Robby and Rose) during karaoke night is challenging. And Piolo Pascual is gay, but the Philippine media want to “protect” his career because he is so nice.

Here’s Ace, the keeshond, my weekend fling:

I’ll need to sort out my life a little bit since I’d like to visit Florida again soon. I think winter would be perfect.

Notes from the Sleep-deprived 4

Wednesday, October 13, 2004, 08:53 PM | Personal

I must be little crazy: I was actually inviting the Dell’s technical support rep from India to come visit the States while troubleshooting a modem over the phone. Scary. I even gave him my website address. I think he got me at the point when he didn’t lie that he was from India even he said his name was “Harry”. He was actually lucky that I was not aggravated (which I usually am when calling these guys), so the episode went smoothly.

While rushing back to work this afternoon, I struck up a conversation with Liz and Bill of Talk to Me. I last saw them in Columbus Circle, and actually have a picture of them somewhere here. They’re going out of Manhattan and taking their Talk to Me project on the road. I gave them blog advice. I hope they have a great time!

Finally, my poor nail finally came off. I am so sad.

Oh there is also one thing that is worrying me: I hope I don’t miss my flight to Florida this Friday. I’m getting the same vibe again like I did when I left for Vegas, so i think I may need to not sleep Thursday night just to make sure I make it to the plane on time.

No, he’s not my date. Hahaha. But I was happy that another nice customer visited the store to brighten up my day.

I just learned from a podiatrist, who upon inspecting my “damaged finger” from a couple of months ago, that I most likely had a fracture on the cartillage that did not appear on the x-ray. It’s still a little tender after two months so that was his conclusion. In a way, I’m a little disappointed in hearing that because apparently not all emergency residents are well-versed in minor fractures of the finger. But at least it wasn’t any worse. Although it really sucks that it will take two more months before a new nail fianlly takes its rightful place.

Sorry, but we’re definitely not a good fit…Good luck. 8

I’m currently trying online dating, and in the past 24 hours I have been rejected twice on Yahoo! Personals. I feel so bad. I actually feel kinda ugly since I have my photo online, and that’s almost entirely the basis of rejection. All I want is a date! Why must I suffer?

Updates 2

Tuesday, October 5, 2004, 07:15 PM | Personal, Xbox

I bought an Xbox last week and I have become an addict. Actually, I’m addicted to online gaming, and currently Star Wars: Batttlefront. Needless to say it is slowly sucking the lifeforce out of me and now my daily routines have become a mess due to lack of sleep. In fact, I cannot think clearly. I have urges to run, shoot and dodge in the sidewalk. Perhaps my life has begun to slip out of control as I just bought two more Xbox games today. I also put an ad in Yahoo! Personals.

At any rate, I’m still trying to concentrate on things I need to do, like wake up in the morning and work. I’m thinking of doing a lot more of my freelance work, such as making more web pages and consulting with more small businesses, but since I cannot think at the moment, it’s just a thought out there that may never be fulfilled.

Normally, I do a lot of thinking when I walk. I think a lot about what I want to write here in the blog, and by the time I get to a computer, I just forget it and do other things. I guess I’m easily distracted now, probably due to lack of sleep.

At this point, I reached a fork in my thought patterns as I wanted to pursue the idea of my sleeping, but at the same time, two orthodox Jews walked in offering to bless me if I were Jewish. I think I should have said yes, although they said that anyone can receive a blessing. I really wanted to hold that lemon and olive branch though. The orthodox Jewish traditions are at par with some of the odd Chinese ones. (Although I did get a Betta fish for “good luck”… Mr. Pink and I however are currently having a love-hate relationship: I think he’s so spoiled and horny all the time, but he may just be seeking attention. I don’t know much about fish psychology.)

Anyway, with regards to sleep, I do have an alarm clock now, and I wake up to WINS radio blaring at my ear. I never fully wake up when the alarm goes on, so lately I’ve been getting the morning news subliminally, interspersed in dreams.
