Not a week removed from canceling its venerable supernatural drama Being Human, BBC has announced that it will not be renewing The Hour for a third season.

“We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through,” the BBC said, in a statement.

The one-hour drama, about a 1950s BBC newsmagazine show, stars Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw, The Wire’s Dominic West, and Romola Garai. The series, which debuted in 2011 on BBC Two in the UK, started off strong out the gate, but was never able to hold onto the sizable numbers of its first year. The show found a bit of awards traction stateside, however, as the show was nominated an Emmy and three Golden Globes last year, including Best Miniseries or Made For TV Movie. But that critical success did not translate into ratings for the troubled series.
