‘Bachelor In Paradise’ Couple Grant Kemp and Lace Morris Announce Breakup

Just four months after their engagement aired on the season finale of Bachelor In Paradise, Grant Kemp and Lace Morris have officially called it quits.

The couple confirmed their breakup to Entertainment Tonight, noting that while the split was devastating to both parties, it was a mutual decision both felt was necessary. That said, it’ll probably cost a pretty penny to get those tattoos of their combined names (“Grace”) removed from their wrists.

“It really was mutual,” Lace stated. “We both have our issues we need to work on, and we can’t really give each other what we need at this time. It’s just not the right timing. We have so much love for each other, and it’s weird because the chemistry is there, and I’m thinking, ‘Why can’t we make this work?’ But it’s just not possible right now.”

The couple was easily the most explosive pairing on Bachelor In Paradise this past season, bickering as often as they were getting along. But it was hard to deny that the duo had some serious chemistry on those moments where they were on the same wavelength. Hell, they’re just weeks removed from a fairly romantic getaway they shared on social media. But while it might seem sudden, Lace points out that this split had been brewing for some time.

“For a month, we were kind of starting to bicker, and it was a thing of, something’s got to give,” Lace explained. “It was a cycle we couldn’t break…I think he’s an amazing man. I’m super sad that it ended, but I know it’s for the best right now.”

For his part, Grant told ET that he still has a lot of respect for Lace, even though their relationship didn’t turn out the way either of them would have liked.

“She’s a great person,” Grant said. “There were things we were trying to work on that we expected to get better with time, and unfortunately it kind of went the opposite way.”

However, in a touching coda to this entire saga, neither party seems willing to completely shut the door on a possible reconciliation.

“I think the odds are definitely against us,” Grant said. “But I know the person that she is. That’s the person I wanted to marry.”

“I could only pray or hope that there is a future with us,” Lace added. “I see one, but I just don’t know when. Now I have to take it day by day and fix my issues, he can fix his. … But I pray we’d have a future, because we had something really special.”

It’s a shame to see the couple split. Sure, I doubted them on Bachelor In Paradise, because they just seemed too volatile. But for a minute there, from all their photos and videos on social media, and all the optimistic, loving posts about their relationship, I really thought they might make it. I guess it serves as a reminder that what we see on social media is a curated version of reality. Granted, it isn’t really news that people aren’t giving the full picture of their relationships on social media, but I was trying to stay optimistic. That said, while I can’t say I’m surprised by this breakup, I am somewhat surprised that this breakup came so soon. Ah well, best wishes to both parties. Breakups suck, especially when both parties really wanted it to work.
